Building safe and navigable roads to traverse challenging terrain can be a herculean and often impossible task for developed and developing nations.

While doing nothing is never acceptable, it is important to understand the benefits, risks and costs of all infrastructure projects.

On occasion, engineers and geologists will refuse to undertake extremely dangerous infrastructure projects. Frequent collateral damage from storms and landslides does not lessen the many challeges posed by rugged terrain.

As for me, driving in certain parts of the US also gives me the hibbie jibbies. Places like Appalachia, the Rockies, North Georgia, and some hills in PA come to mind.

In the case of our lovely Nature Isle, it just might be the proverbial blessing and curse scenario where only those who have to go from point A to point B in Dominica on a regular basis fully understand and feel the pain of having to navigate on dangerous and sometime impassable roads.

These days i notice that people drive slowly under the Canefield cliff. People please understand that under the cliff is a very dangerous place and rocks can fall ANYTIME. please drive like you are trying to get somewhere under the canefield cliff and stop all you nonsense driving like you all on a slow tour of the island. I not saying you have to speed and drive recklessly, but drive like want to get somewhere,

I’ve said it many times before. You cannot be climate resilient with no bypass roads, especially where the road goes through severe bottlenecks like Massacre and Mahaut and along the coast.
    Tarreau, Champagne, Stowe…
Do we have no qualified civil engineers and planners in the government?
Tarreau stretch and Champagne to Soufriere both need dynamite and grading, same thing happens every time. Fix it once and fix it properly. Or is it too much work?
still no solar panels on the State house (an oversight according to it’s previous resident) none on the houses being built by unknown people for the populace.

Five years have passed since the government promised immediate action to create a Morne Daniel bypass so as to avoid the danger of rockfalls along the highway below Canefield Cliff. Yet we still have a catastrophe waiting to happen!

Nothing new there. Every time it rains a little bit more than usual these things in the same areas happen. What’s being done about it? Nothing, not even the slightest bit of mitigation for the future. Mountainous places like Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia have to deal with problems like that. They install flexible rockfall barriers. It’s doable it’s not rocket science but the CM rather prefers to use our resources for other purposes.

Yea, like building feeder roads, port expansion, houses, schools, and hospitals/wellness centres and keeping them functioning while providing support to those Dominicans who cannot afford. What you speak of is important but we have more pressing matters.

The only place in the world that draws money from a bottomless pit is Dominica, an unlimited supply of money is always available. Now we are been compared with super rich countries like Switzerland, what a joke! The CBI is far over extended, Dominica has one of the smallest tax base in the world……..yet financial miracles are expected. So let’s just build an under ground system of roads and rail tracks..problem solved.

Point, I suspected for a while now that your real name must be Roosevelt Skerrit. Everyday you come on here and spin other people’s views and tell more lies. A country doesn’t have to be super rich to protect its citizen from ill effects. It’s just a matter of investing the countries resources, however little that might be, for the good of all citizens. NOT for the good of one single man.
