PM advises all cautionary measures be taken ahead of TS Tammy: ‘ better we are over-prepared…’

Prime Minister Roosevelt has urged residents and citizens of Dominica to take precautionary measures as Tropical Storm Tammy approaches the Lesser Antilles. On Wednesday, the Government of Dominica issued a tropical storm watch for Dominica.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours.

Prime Minister Skerrit who recently traveled to Canada to attend the first Canada-CARICOM Summit cut short his stay and is expected to be back in Dominica today.

“I want to urge the residents and citizens of Dominica, our country to take all precautionary measures, every single precautionary measure,” he said during a live interview on State-Owned Radio DBS earlier today. “It’s better that we are over-prepared than under-prepared for this approaching weather.”

He continued. “The mere fact that it has a name tells you that it is forming.”

According to him,  storms are more frequent and ferocious due to the advent of Climate Change.

“We know what a Tropical Storm can do, we witnessed that in 2015. Twenty years ago, if we heard about a Tropical Storm approaching Dominica we would not be concerned, but certainly with the advent of Climate Change and the impact of Climate Change one can appreciate that the entire weather pattern has changed dramatically,” he explained. “And we are seeing more frequent and ferocious storms.”

Therefore, he advised the public to take absolutely nothing for granted.

Mr. Skerrit further advised the general public to follow the advisory from the meteorologist’s office and the Office of Disaster Management (ODM).

“We have today to prepare. We have gutters and drains in our backyards or in communities,” Mr. Skerrit stated. “This is an opportunity for all of us, the private sector, the village councils, to play their part in ensuring that every family is in a better situation and every community is in a better situation.”

Meanwhile, he revealed that his government will host a meeting with the National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO) at 3:30 p.m. today to discuss preparation plans.

“We continue to put things in place and after that meeting, I will get a full report from every committee chair,” Mr. Skerrit noted.

An area of moisture ahead of Tropical Storm Tammy can be expected to result in an increase in cloudiness, scattered showers, and possible thunderstorms across the island later today.

At 5 a.m., Tropical Storm Tammy was located about 455 miles east southeast of Dominica, and a Tropical Storm Watch remains in place. Tammy is moving west at about 17 mph with maximum sustained winds near 40mph with higher gusts. On this track, Tammy is expected to approach the area by Friday afternoon into Saturday.

This system has the potential to bring gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding to portions of the Lesser Antilles beginning Friday.

A deterioration in sea conditions can also be expected by tonight and gradually become worse into the weekend and a small craft warning and high surf advisory is now in place.

Unless talking, you are happy inside, since hurricanes and storms devastating the country is one of your sources of obtaining free money from nations around the world to put some into your deep pocket, and a little bit spent on things insignificant in the country.
You yearn for the months of September, to December, to come along knowing that those are the months the country are more vulnerable to floods, and hurricanes.
    You are a bad man!
Well, your supporters claim that Ross Medical school left Dominica because of too many hurricanes hitting the island.
So, whereas we are aware that this expected storm, covers a vast area from Barbados to St. Kitts, I wonder what will be their excuse when Ross remain in Barbados after the storm.
Roosevelt note: a China man lunched an attack on China’s embassy in San Francisco this morning, Chanel 5 Los Angeles said he drove a car into the embassy, then that China man shot another Chinese who died in the hospital.
Ah wander if any copy cat in Dominica?

This man Roosevelt) is the personification of evil (Evil in flesh & blood). The $3 000 000+ of taxpayers money that he shamelessly continues to use to live extravagantly with his wife and children, should have been used for repairs to the roofs of the least among us.

Many of the indigent among us will have to use umbrellas, plastic sheets to shelter from the raindrops in their homes. Many children will cower in fear and hunger as the thunder roars and the cupboards are bare.

All this will go on while the Great Satan sleeps comfortably through the night, cuddled snuggly with his wife, unperturbed, as the storm rages on.

We are paying for that house in mount Daniel and a space should be made available there to shelter the vulnerable. Don’t speak like you care because you are on the air. Show the “citizens of Dominica, my country.” Did everyone read that line from Roosevelt? What a jerk joke. 😂😂😂Make room for us in the house we’re paying for up at Mountain Daniel. And make the Red lady cook some Manicou and Mountain Chicken. Then you can go on DBS and brag.

You have left Coulibistrie to the repeated slaughter of storms and hurricanes by offering no river wall, no housing support, no extra safety nets since the last hurricanes because it is not a Labour constituency. You, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is an evil hypocrite along with all your supporters but hell awaits us all. We think we are in heaven but we are living in hell in this Commonwealth of Dominica! We are all Dominicans in the Commonwealth. Storms and hurricanes no not care which political party you support and God does not like liars and hypocrites. Time will tell. Amen.

Necessary repairs should have already been done especially to roofs and windows. Non-perishable foods should have already been bought and stored. Flashlights and new batteries should have already been purchased.

The biggest problem is most Dominicans don’t have the purchasing power to get the necessities to ride out the storm with minimal suffering. They are flat broke. The vast majority of Dominicans live on the financial precipice of life under one man for twenty years. He is an existential threat to the lives of 99.9% of the citizenry. The 0.1% of the population who live well are relatives, cronies and others with code affiliation to the RLP ( Roosevelt Labour Party).

It’s good that you are acknowledging him. He is surely not a Starboy of Stupidity or a MAD CLOWN, but a real doctor!

Thank Roosevelt for what! If Roosevelt really cared about the safety of the citizens, long before the hurricane season, he would have given people of the lowest and middle income bracket duty free concessions on goods to repair their homes specifically roofs, doors and windows.

If he really cared he would have used a fraction of the CBI earnings to mend the dilapidated houses of the desperately poor among us instead of having taxpayers pay to maintain his opulent lifestyle.

If he really cared he would not be oblivious to the fact that the starvation wages and salaries have left many working class people without any savings for a rainy day such times like this.

in fact, Roosevelt has lived such an ostentatious lifestyle that he cannot any longer relate to the shocking desperate plight of the majority poor.

Roosevelt present occupation of the OPM is a grave and dangerous threat to the whole of Dominica.

I repeat. Roosevelt is NOT prime ministerial material. The man is a simpleton. A good leader should have great communication skills, be able to articulate his messages and policies confidently and convincingly. Can Roosevelt do that? The man butchers the English language and is so incoherent and annoying with his arm, arm, arm.

This man (Roosevelt) needs serious speech therapy. Should also read much more often in an attempt to become much more enlightened, coherent and communicative.
