The Government of Dominica expresses sincere condolences to the family of Dominican cyclist Bram Sanderson who lost his life in a motorcycle accident in the early hours of Sunday morning in Antigua.
This was according to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit through a Facebook post.
According to reports from Antigua News Room, the accident occurred on the Sydney Walling Highway and American Road at around 3 a.m. on August 13.
It was reported that Sanderson, 30, was pronounced dead en route to the hospital.
“Sanderson represented Dominica as a cyclist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and in the sport of kayaking,” Skerrit said. “He was an all-round athlete who excelled in track and field and basketball.”
Furthermore, he said his government extends sympathies to the sporting fraternity and all who mourn his passing.
Meantime, the government also wishes a speedy recovery to the second accident victim, Dominican national Daniel Jno Baptiste of Portsmouth who is presently a patient at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center.
Both men were traveling on a motorcycle, reportedly from west to east, while a pick-up truck was traveling from north to south as they approached the intersection.
The Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene within four minutes of receiving the call. Still, reports are that the impact left Sanderson with severe injuries, and he died despite efforts by the EMS team.
Jno Baptiste was sent hurtling over the fence at Harney Motors and onto the compound.
Former student, respectful, ambitious, determined, loving, hard working, talented, skillful,
Robbed of a decent life in his home country.
failed by his government who so ‘love’ the youths
causing him to migrate to his death.
Am I upset? Definitely!!!
The evil that men do lives with them ; the good oft interred with their bones. So let it be with Bram.
Will surely miss you.
Rest in peace my yout.
Rest ez Bram..sigh
“Both men were traveling on a motorcycle, reportedly from west to east.” Wow! What a distance to travel. “From West to East”? They would have never gotten there.
This is sad news. Bram bought his first racing bike from me – a classic vintage model that had carried me thousands of miles in my younger days.
My condolences to his family.
Hypocrite use the money from the sales of our passport to create the enabling environment for private sector jobs to flourish. This will keep most of our young people here at home.
What we have is a Starboy of Stupudity (a sot), Chi-Chi, being controlled by others, and the fool has no say over how our passport money is spent!!
But wasn’t his son involved in an accident in Grand bay that resulted in the death of a biker?
It’s always very painful when someone meets his demise prematurely and unnaturally.
Sincerest condolences to the bereaved family, friends and acquaintances of the dearly departed. May his acts of kindness throughout his sojourn on earth help to ease the hurt and keep your spirit buoyant.
