PM expresses condolences to mourning Guyanese families

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has extended condolences to the families who mourn the loss of their loved ones in the school dormitory fire in Mahdia, Guyana on Sunday.

At least 19 students at the government boarding school were killed and numerous others were injured as a fire swept through the dormitory overnight. The fire started around 10:50 p.m.

According to Guyanese officials, all but one of the victims were Indigenous females.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of 19 students who perished in a secondary school dormitory fire in Mahdia, Guyana late Sunday. I pray for strength for their families and healing for those hospitalized with critical injuries,” the PM said in a Facebook post.

He expressed that the Government and people of Dominica extend sincere condolences to the grieving families and stand in solidarity with the Government and people of Guyana.

It is good that you have found it in you to commiserate with the people of Guyana in their time of adversity.

However, don’t you have any compassion for the local vendors whose only means of supporting themselves and their family is by vending? You haven’t even first found a suitable place to relocate them so that they will recklessly be able to continue to ply their trade.

Roosevelt is completely devoid of concern and sympathy for an already downtrodden group of citizens who are just barely keeping their heads above water. Roosevelt should not only be condemned, he should be defied until a proper place of relocation is found.

Ibo France must you always mix matters? What do the PM’s condolences to the Guyana people, which I am sure you know is appropriate now?
To remind you it is 1/2 year through 2023.
When will you find it to forgive and move on? Why do you have this sort of hatred which is killing you? you cannot divide matters and not leave the PM out. It would seem that you have a personal vendetta. Heal your heart, my boy. Stop doing this to yourself. Some persons are sick in their hearts, it is because of carrying unforgiveness and hatred of others.
You need to know the facts before you comment. The young man was given permission to have a mobile bar and the vendors were allowed there because of covid. Vendors used to pack and unpack every day. I am sure you can take the stance to make recommendations. I would like to see the vendors placed in an arcade or maybe the MT building on the bayfront can be used to display their craft as this is close to the berth. Your thoughts Ibo? What…
