Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is calling on the international community to “find a pathway to peace” in order to arrive at a solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
According to a report from the New York Times, Western officials estimate that hundreds of thousands of people have been killed, millions of Ukrainians have fled and the country has sustained tens of billions of dollars worth of damage since Russian forces began their full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022,
“Three years of battling Covid-19, spending money to save lives and livelihoods, and when you thought that Covid was over and you were bouncing back, here comes this conflict between Russia and Ukraine and people thought it was going to last one month, two months, three months. Now it’s almost two years,” Mr. Skerrit said. “And there is no sign that this war is going to end anytime soon.”
He continued, “And this is why we call on the international community that we need to find a pathway to peace between these two countries, so that we can have a resolution to the conflict between these two countries.”
The Prime Minister said this is continuing to create a serious challenge.
“This is why you have seen an increase in pricing of fuel and food,” he explained. “Because this is what they call imported inflation. The prices come up high from overseas and they land there high in Dominica…so they are not high because of any taxes here as people say, they are high because they are imported inflation…”
The CARICOM Community, in a statement issued by The CARICOM Secretariat on Thursday, February 24, 2022, strongly condemns the military attacks and invasion of Ukraine by The Russian Federation and calls for the immediate and complete withdrawal of the military presence and cessation of any further actions that may intensify the current perilous situation in that country.
The statement went on to state that the recognition by The Russian Federation of the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk represents a violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
“The hostilities against Ukraine go counter to the principles of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in the internal affairs of another sovereign state and the prohibition on the threat or use of force, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, which are the bedrock of this Community,” the statement said.
CARICOM maintains that the principles of universal respect and adherence to these norms and principles of international law are fundamental to the maintenance of the international system, and global peace and security. CARICOM called on all parties involved to urgently embark on intensified diplomatic dialogue to immediately de-escalate hostilities and work towards sustainable peace.

It is all about the greed of those big corporations who control the politics and politicians of these countries. So don’t expect there will be any initiative any time soon by those so called super powers to end this conflict until their objectives are met. You shall NEVER see Russia withdraw its troops from Ukraine until it has achieved its objectives. Ukraine in NATO poses an existential threat to Russia.
