PM reports that there is a prospect to replace outgoing President Savarin

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said his government has given consideration for a replacement of the President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Angelo Savarin, and will make the information available to the public at an appropriate time.

He made the announcement at a press briefing held on Monday.

“The current President, His Excellency Charles Savarin’s term comes to an end on October 1, 2023, and he would have served two terms maximum as stipulated by the constitution,” Prime Minister Skerrit said. “We have given consideration for a replacement of the President and at the appropriate time I shall inform the country of likely candidates and the final candidate for consideration.”

He reiterated, “We have somebody in mind…”

On September  30, 2013, Savarin was elected President of Dominica.  He replaced President Eluid Williams.  Savarin was sworn in on October 1, 2013.

Savarin was born on October 2, 1943, and is a former member of parliament. He served as a senator in the parliament during the interim government (1979-1980); during the first term of Dame Eugenia Charles, Dominica Freedom Party administration (1980-1985); and during the Dominica Labour Party government (2005-2013).

He has held several ministerial appointments during his more than twenty-four years-long parliamentary career.

These include Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with Special Responsibility for Trade, Industry, and Tourism (1983- 1985); Minister for Tourism and Enterprise Development (2000-2005); Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Labour, and Minister with Responsibility for the Public Service (2005-2007); Minister for Public Utilities, Energy and Ports, and Minister with responsibility for the Public Service (2007-2009); and Minister for National Security, Immigration and Labour, and Minister with responsibility for the Public Service (2010-2013). Savarin has also served Dominica at the diplomatic level, as Minister Counsellor/Dominica High Commission to the United Kingdom (1985-1986).

Savarin served as a teacher at the Dominica Grammar School from 1963 to 1970.

He has had a long and distinguished career as a Trade Unionist, Diplomat, Politician, and Cabinet Minister.  It is widely accepted that President Savarin is one of the most skilled and coruscating debaters of his generation and quite possibly one of the most devastating platform speakers of his era.

He is a devout catholic and attended the St. John’s Primary School, the Dominica Grammar School, and Ruskin College, Oxford, England. He has professional training in industrial relations, development studies, and international relations from the United Kingdom and Germany.

President Savarin was born in the town of Portsmouth, is married to Clara Josephine Savarin, and has five children, Paula Savarin, Dr. Anthea John-Phillip, Carla Savarin, Hubert Savarin, and Dr. Amanda Savarin.

I EJ. THOMAS could not laud this lofty Charles A. Savarin neither in life nor praise him in death. A dangerous person who lurked at the forefront of our lives for much too long.
How so? We know Evil exist. It is put into use when doers can seemingly take a good cause and twist it completely to their advantage with the help of Satanism.

Hubris-minded like his predecessor in Eden, Charles out of political greed – an overwhelming need to settle scores – inflicted and planted seeds of division, violence, anarchy in our Virgin Commonwealth in 1979.

He changed permanently the political and spiritual values of Dominica for 43 plus years by engaging in works of spiritual darkness , strife, bitterness with co conspirators.

Charles Savarin is like a demon in office but I would not be surprised if his replacement is Satan himself . But there would be war in heaven and earth if that happened

Another UWP Jacka,The President functions and responsibilities are spelt out in Dominica’s 111 page constitution.Skerrit did not write the constitution. When a bill is taken to parliament, debated, read 3 times and all three times the It’s have it(the majority) It bill is them taken to that President to be signed into law.The President MUST sign the bill into law, that is his job.If he does not sign he will be fired. All you think the President can do what he want or what the UWP lying, lazy, crooks and traitors tell him to do? The President is controlled by the constitution and parliament.Go and read the constitution.Stop lying to people, the opposition has a part to play in choosing a President. For your information and the other ignorant UWP aholes, the constitution makes provision for consultation by WRITING.

It is you who are the foo.. Do some research and you will find out that the President can refuse to assent. It was done in the time of President Shaw.

A bit of advice, for free at that, stop using those disgusting terms in your comments.

Why should I call you names?

You did not address the point – and that is the President can refuse to assent to bills passed by Parliament.

And just a reminder – during the years 1995 to 2000 DLP supporters never stopped calling the radio to say that the UWP was corrupt.

Good riddance Savarin. You would even do the country a good service if you could leave later today. To say that your tenure has been terrible would be a gross understatement!

Just like Savarin, whosoever is given this ceremonial position, shall become a mere lapdog of Roosevelt. Roosevelt has a strong animus for people who are independently minded.

The only time good governance and prosperity will visit the shores of Dominica is when Roosevelt and his corrupt cohorts are politically exterminated from government.

I’ve got a strange feeling that the replacement is going to be even worse than the outgoing one. It’s all an enactment of a sick man’s ideas which were hatched some 20 years ago. This is supposed to be the final chapter.

All I can say, good riddance Savarin. You have been the most controversial President in Dominicas young history. In 10 years you managed to contribute absolutely nothing to the good governance of our country. Corruption, blind following of the government in office, controversial elections and divisiveness amongst the citizens is what you will remembered for. WELL DONE!
Skerrit, as far as you are concerned, I am absolutely certain that you have replacement in mind already. I have a good idea, who that replacement might be. But be careful, the nomination of that new president might turn out to be your ultimate downfall. Be careful!

ADMIN, you need to add to this story that Savarin championed the caused of civil servants in the 1970’s; the he as leader of the CSA (as it was known then) was instrumental in several successful strikes against the then government. Those strikes and protests leading to significant salary increases.

    I thank you

How you start is not more important than how you turn out in the end. No rational person would give Mr. Savarin any passing grade for his tenure as president.
      Leadership – FAILED
      Impartiality – FAILED
Advocacy for good governance – FAILED
Instead of putting out the many national fires during his presidency, he has doused them with flammable liquids.

You are something else. You know that. All your talk, talk has Failed miserably. When will it end? I have told you umpteen times before that Dominicans do not listen to you. That is why the Supreme Leader, Roosevelt Skerrit, still stands tall in the face of it all.

Not only Savarin should go, but when he demits office, he should encourage Roosevelt to do likewise. Both are antithetical to the progress and advancement of Dominica.

DS, unlike you, I bring the objective facts and strong circumstantial evidence that cannot be honestly condemned.

The people of Dominica are the ones who condemn your objective facts and cogent circumstantial evidence that is why Skerrit is still the PM of Dominica and that is a fact, like it or not. All your rhetoric falls on deaf ears. All your thumbs up come from those UWP CABAL AND BUMS.
