Government of Dominica to appoint Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge sports ambassadors (with audio of PM Skerrit)

(L-r) Athanaze, PM Skerrit, Hodge

The Government of Dominica will appoint West Indies cricketers Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge as Sports Ambassadors for the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The appointments are in honour of their recent performance as part of the Senior Men’s West Indies Cricket Team.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit met with the two sportsmen on Monday, June 26 following their appearance in the One Day International (ODI) Series against the United Arab Emirates earlier this month.

Athanaze made a stunning debut for the West Indies, scoring a record-equaling fifty in the third ODI against the hosts on June 9.

Athanaze, the Windward Islands Volcanoes four-day Captain, made his first-class debut for the Windward Islands in 2018 and was the leading run-scorer in the 2022-2023 Regional Four-Day Competition. He was also the leading run-scorer of the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Hodge made his first-class debut for the Windward Islands in 2012, and was the leading run-scorer in the 2019-2020 Regional Super 50 tournament for the Windwards. He made his ODI debut in the first ODI against the UAE on June 4, 2023. Hodge previously played for the St. Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League.

Prime Minister Skerrit congratulated the two sportsmen and wished them continued success in their cricketing careers.

Below is an interview with Prime Minister Skerrit on the announcement.

These accolades are ill advise, they should be bestowed on people who have achieved not those who are at the entry point of their international career. We should be encouraging these young men to go out and perform not giving them useless retirement certificates.

Lin, were our cricketers who lost against the Netherlands disabled then? I don’t think so but that will not have helped our Dominican heroes for sure. Skerrit is just shamelessly exploiting the situation to create popularity for himself at no public expense. Typical. He thinks everyone is for sale like he himself when he switched allegiance to China.

I congratulate these young men and thank them for helping to put our
little country on the map. However, I hope these ambassadorships are not full diplomatic ones because that would put a lot of burden on these young shoulders. They will be marked and questioned every time they pass through the diplomatic channel at international airports, because of their youths but primarily because of the less than honourable image of the country and it’s leader, whose passports they bear. let them concentrate on their sports. That alone will make them welcome everywhere without arousing suspicion whether or not they carry money, negotiable instruments or valuables on their person on behalf of the donor of their passports. That gift is too onerous to bear In my opinion.

Why didn’t he surround them with people who can help them to grow in the sport of cricket and a financial reward???? The precedence will cause problems down the road, for those who excel in sports… Skerrit continues to destroy sports!
Skerrit destroyed sports in Dominica from the time he had Justina Charles and another lady from the Paix Bouche constituency as sports Ministers…Skerrit has mothing good to pass on to young people!!

More garbage again from Meme. Meme, why don’t you take a rest and look into your mirror and ask him to change his ways and his thinking? If Skerrit had kept quiet you would have had a lot more to say. Right? Chill brother, chill.

It won’t be on election day. You know that. A word to the wise is sufficient especially for someone like you with first-hand experience.

The conman is at it again. Give the young men time and space to grow. They are not even immersed into TEST CRICKET yet. Stop putting pressure on them. You are leading them to fail.Your devil and showman Skerrit.
Many predicted that you, LIAR Skerrit, would take the achievements of the young men as yours, when throughout the island you have deliberately destroyed playing fields, and/or encroached on playing fields, rendering them smaller. Man you are such a fake, a slick, deceitful, dishonest, and insincere showman. But all this too shall end.
Lockhart Sebastian has achieved many, many, many, times more for West Indies cricket. I wonder why you have not embraced him…Is it because he exposes your charade???

Unemployment among the youth population in Dominica is at an all time high. There is an exodous of young Dominicans are seeking greener pastures in Antigua, Guadeloupe, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, USA, Canada, England although each has its own problems.

These two young men have shown great promise and potential. They have not as yet cemented themselves in the international arena. But Roosevelt, as usual, using these two young sporting prospects to massage his ballooning ego. He is a photo-op manipulator.

Look at the sporting facilities in most of the OECS territories and compare them with Dominica. Sad to say, Dominica is light years behind in the dust.

Keep exaggerating your filth. They will get you no where but disappointment. And what if he had kept quiet and said nothing? You would have been the one massaging their a.s to balloon your ego. Wouldn’t you?, the old new mexican puppeteer. Sad to say, they do not resonate on election day, the most important day of our lives.

Meme, what is it that you want Skerrit to do for you to make you happy. Tell me. I am listening. Do not be too jealous of Skerrit. Skerrit is doing his job. What is your job if you have any? Same old garbage response from you and Ibo France every time a news breaks out.

Only one who lacks charcter like you would be jealous of Skerrit…Do you know the characteristics of a good leader? Out of ten that i know of, Skerrit has about ONE!!
You sound so illiterate. If you are abroad, try to avail yourself of the opportunity to get a basic education. At least up to FIFTH GRADE level..

        • June 30, 2023

Yes, I do know the characteristics of a good leader. Someone who possesses the characteristics of Ugly Willy Lennox Linton and chicken-box Thomas Fontaine. You must be dreaming and wishing, don’t you?
But, I will still say it is good to dream. The only disappointment is when your dreams don’t come true. Skerrit will remain the Supreme Leader of Dominica until we are ready to put him out which does not appear possible in the near future.

“Skerrit is doing his job.” Roosevelt’s job is that of a wrecking ball. The man is an ECONOMIC terrorist. He has economically upended the once thriving agriculture, agro-processing and small and medium manufacturing industries of Dominica.
