We have arrived at a milestone which is the Golden Jubilee in December 2022. Whoever thought that the Club would reach that milestone?
Thanks and Praises to the Almighty.
It was very hard work and discipline from the beginning which placed us amongst the top Football Clubs in Dominica from a humble beginning. The team’s average age from its inception was twenty years and we played against players
in their late twenties and early and late thirties. A player from Spartans called us a preschool but we defeated them one nil in our first game against them. We were planning for the formation of the Club from Easter of 1972 and we
formed the Club in December 1972, with a seven-member executive. Three of these executive members have gone to eternal rest. We started off with some Saint Mary’s Academy High School, and Roseau Boys School Students, and other very interested young players. This is one of the most talked about clubs of our generation in Dominica’s football history.
The Harlem Club was formed two years before, football fans would talk about the greatest football rivalry ever, Kensborough versus Harlem. We had a great impact on football, on our supporters and our opponents alike. We had many players (tantamount to forty) who played for the National Senior Men’s Team over the years and we also had players who captained the national team and some of our coaches coached the Senior Men’s and Women’s Teams.
We had a massive impact on Dominica’s football development over many years; as a matter of fact, Dominica’s highest FIFA Ranking was in 1996 when Dominica was ranked #125, and Clifford “Bala” Celaire was the Coach. In the same
year, CONCACAF awarded the D.F.A. US $500.00 for Dominica’s performance as the quickset moving team in the World in 1996.
We also produced two other Senior National Men’s Team Coaches, in the persons of Erickson Christoper and Robertson Hypolite. We produced Managers for the National Senior Men’s Team, in the persons of Berdock Shillingford, Alick Charles, and Clifford Celaire.
We produced five Senior National Men’s Team Captains: Fitz Henry, Alick Charles, Robertson Hypolite, Kirt White, and Wayne George.
We produced executive members for the Dominica Football Association. The football standard in Dominica has dropped significantly after the loss of the Windsor Park which was transformed into an International Stadium. It’s now
twenty-two years and counting we don’t have a playing facility in Roseau and this has hindered the progress of football and other sports in general.
We will keep producing more national players, national captains, and more national coaches as time goes by.
WE GIVE THE ALMIGHTY THANKS AND PRAISES FOR ALL THAT HE DID AND CONTINUES TO DO FOR US OVER THE YEARS AND ALSO OUR SPONSORS, PLAYERS, AND SUPPORTERS
We will release some more information with regard to the Club’s Anniversary Programme at the appropriate time.
Thanks for your support.
Congratulations!
Let’s go.
CONGRATULATIONS!
From a die-hard Harlem Fan.
