[Press Release] PM Skerrit calls for support for Haiti, makes case for more efficient intraregional travel

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit on Monday called for more support for Haiti to help address the country’s humanitarian needs amid escalating gang violence.

“We have committed as a Community to supporting the Haitian people to broker a Haitian-led solution to the instability that they now face. It is a crisis that requires our continued support and the support of the wider international community,” Prime Minister Skerrit said at the opening ceremony of the 45th Conference of Heads of Government in Trinidad and Tobago.

He said CARICOM outreach had met with favourable reaction but sustained engagement was needed to assist Haiti to arrest a wave of violence by criminal gangs in recent months.

“We are well aware that it is just the beginning, and our engagement must build from that and we must keep the dialogue going until there is not only light at the end of the tunnel, but a station for the stakeholders to disembark from the train, united in purpose and action,” Mr. Skerrit said.

The Dominican leader assumed the Chairmanship of CARICOM on Monday as Heads meet over the next two days to discuss matters ranging from regional security and agriculture and food security to climate change and intra-regional travel.

Prime Minister Skerrit stressed that it was time to remove the hassle from intra-regional travel.

“Colleague Heads, we need now to actively pursue creative and affordable partnerships to deliver on this crucial element of integration in the interest of our people. The movement of people and goods are the backbone of a successful integration arrangement,” he said

He also called for an expansion of the categories for free movement of skilled nationals to benefit the growth and expansion of the regional economy and the spirit of CARICOM.

“It is incumbent upon us all, to strive to increase the ability of the less endowed to participate more fully in the trading arrangements. We must all seek to make our arrangements more equitable and use the provisions of the Treaty in a more positive manner,” he advised.

The Prime Minister looked to youth engagement and involvement to advance the objectives of CARICOM over the next 50 years. He noted the region’s young people have demonstrated interest in formulating solutions to issues such as climate change; and praised their grasp of technology to create new jobs, and their innovation and creativity in entrepreneurship, culture, sports and the arts.

Roosevelt, as satan rule over Dominica and you, the devil has been in control of Haiti from the inception of Haiti as an independent nation.
When the forefathers of that country decided to engage France in war for the political independence of Haiti, at a point of fear of loosing the battle; instead of praying to God for help, they asked the devil to help them to beat the French; and if the devil make them Win, he could have their souls and Haiti.
We they won, but since then Haiti remains a country in poverty and entropy!
Not too long ago we saw people killing people in the streets and setting them on fire.
A St. Vincent Ibrahim man said openly you have him on government payroll.

Your wife Melissa had obeah man on platform in Dominica blowing ram horn in her face, remember that?
Anywhere the devil is in control, poverty takes precedence!
You Roosevelt with your lying tongue can’t do squat to help Haiti!

Can anyone of you point to anything positive in your lives that you can attribute to CARICOM? At least the OECS allows citizens of member states easy access to live and work with the territory. There is the CSME, but very few people take advantage of it.
They have trade rules in place but member territories disregard them when it is convenient.

To me, CARICOM is just a forum for the leaders to make empty speeches.

Once again these leaders continue their empty sounds about support for Haiti. This makes them sound sympathetic, but in effect delivers nothing to make life any
better for the Haitian people. The mess which Haiti is has been simmering for years.
The powerful countries of the world aren’t interested in committing their blood and treasure to help Haiti as they do for other hotspots around the world egs. Syria, the DRC, etc. They don’t only talk when they want to help but these Caricom leaders only talk. Don’t they have an RSS which could lead the way and this would elicit support from the powerful countries of the world. Instead it’s only talk and more talk from a safe distance. In the meantime Barbados has it’s contingent of the RSS training in Dominica. To do what against whom? Listen as the empty talk continues.

Mr Skerrit, do you understand what you are saying? Supporting the movement of Haitians all across the Caribbean. You having alienated Dominicans and caused them to migrate to Canada.
These are the poorest people in the world. They have no land from which to support themselves, and no access to tertiary education. Therefore they are a dependent group of people, squeezed by Gangs and Black Magic. What can they bring to a place like (say) Dominica? Nothing. They are just slaves, crooks and criminals. I am sorry to have to say that, seeing that they are my people and originated from Africa. Their first president Toussaint, was good. but what came after him was corruption and hell.

If you really want to help them, you have to create opportunities for them. They need land- to feed themselves, Education for all- to improve their life skills, Employment via cheap labour for agriculture in Europe- so that they can improve their lot, Health care etc.
Can you do that- DGS Boy?

Roosevelt is just reading a prepared script written by one of his highly paid ghost writers. Just as he makes a big song and dance with his budget speeches, this script will do nothing to change the downward trajectory of happenings in CARICOM member states.

Look what he has done to Dominica. Annihilated the middle class; stagnated economic development; eviscerated small and medium size businesses; diminished democratic practices; corrupted the civil service; divided the people into political tribes.

The only good he has done is for himself, his functionally illiterate wife, his children and his unchaste hangers-on.

All you write is pure garbage that smacks of jealousy and ignorance. Once again, all your thumbs up are from illiterate, uneducated UWP blue monkeys who know nothing but garbage coming from you. . He has annihilated everything in Dominica yet, he is reelected at every General Election by the people of Dominica. Do you make any sense? Lucky you, you have not been annihilated. Has he depleted your pocket of the couple dollars you are worth? How many businesses in Dominica do you own? How about your script? Do you think they will do anything significant to change the outcome of the next General Election in Dominica? You are just a man of dreams and no means. When last did you have a dream come true?

When you are talking about next level the Caribbean states need to to implement national and maybe caricom I’d. And bring the price of travel around the Caribbean cheap as possible. Like in Europe 🇪🇺 £20 or €20 to travel London to France 🇫🇷 ,Italy or Spain 🇪🇸 empower Caribbean people so that they can really 🤔 be the architect of the Caribbean future, where people from all around the world 🌎 want to come and spend time.its this that has stagnate the region for the last 30yrs.bold decisions need to be made to open up the Caribbean to tourists Island 🏝 hoping at reasonable rates where everybody inthe Caribbean benefits. We see it in the cricket 🏏 they hold back top players from smaller Islands and who benefits from this? Yes the opposition lol .black people holding other black people back .slave mentality. Crab 🦀 in a barrel 😋 stuff lol.but it’s true.
