Ross Parker, PwC East Caribbean Territory Leader, attended a meeting with Didier Trebucq, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Barbados and The Eastern Caribbean at the UN House to cement PwC East Caribbean’s territory membership of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).

The UN Global Compact aims to mobilise a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders to create the world we want to live in. To achieve this, the UNGC supports companies to: do business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with Ten Principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption: and take strategic actions to advance broader societal goals, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with an emphasis on collaboration and innovation.

The membership is another affirmation of the existing global commitment PwC has, as a signatory at the global firm level since 2002, and a move by PwC East Caribbean to demonstrate its leadership of the private sector towards meeting the SDGs. It will also help to drive the initiative to scale up actions aligned with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact. PwC East Caribbean is one of only 32 businesses (“the magic 50”) to be a member in the Caribbean.

Ross Parker, Territory Leader, PwC East Caribbean, said, “I’m delighted we’ve reaffirmed PwC’s commitment to the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact at the local level representing Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. It was a pleasure to meet with Didier and some of his team to officially cement our local membership. I look forward to working together to make sure business is a force for good in society.” Ross continued, “Climate disruption across the Caribbean continues to increase, if not from hurricanes, then from severe flooding and record high temperatures. These pose serious challenges to our economies, with significant cost implications. To our communities, through damage to livelihoods, and to the environment, through loss of habitats and changing ecosystems. In addition we’re also impacted by wider societal disruptions such as the pandemic and conflicts. We believe that business has a key role to play in helping to address these challenges and we are committed to playing our part.”
