COMMENTARY: Restoring the essence of the nation

Kent Vital

Restoring the Essence of the Nation

Welcome to this column.  I previously shared my thoughts with you under the “Freedom Speaks Column”.  But as many of you would know by now, I have resigned as the Political Leader of the DFP but I will remain actively engaged with the public in political discourse and actions.  As an element of that, I am starting this new weekly column – Restoring the essence of the Nation.  But what do we mean by restoring the essence of the nation?  Read on to understand.

“Think logically, and you have a chance to solve a problem. Reacting emotionally to it prolongs and worsens your dilemma”. The forgoing was said by Stewart Stafford.   Certainly, we in Dominica do have a huge problem on our hands – the soul of our nation is being sapped and we all know it as we observe that: our economy is weak and crumbling given the lack of sound economic management and the lack of economic dynamism and resilience; our democracy is being subverted; and the social cohesiveness of our society is worsening while there is much moral decay.

We all wish to solve this problem. We all want a better life for ourselves and our future generations. We want to preserve our isle of beauty and splendor; we want to continue to toil and to create a prosperous country; we want our people to remain strong and healthy and full of Godly reverent fear; and we certainty want the theme “all for each and each for all” to reign supreme! This is the essence of the nation and its is reflected in our national anthem. But our problem is that we are losing the essence of the nation.

But when one has a problem, talking about it raises awareness which is the first step towards a solution, but solving the problem goes way beyond that.  Beyond awareness of the problem, there must be a determination of the root causes of the problem, and this must be followed by a determination of the best possible strategy to address those root causes (the true underlying constraints) in order to solve the problem. But the process must go further and requires that the implementation of the strategy must be planned and this must be followed by implementation actions!  This is the essence of logical thinking and the constraint management processes.

Central to logical thinking is a determination of what are the root causes of a problem.    At the core of our problem in Dominica is a corrupt ruling political regime that wants to hold onto power at any cost including through the use of military force and electoral fraud.  They have employed every diabolical strategy that they can muster to subvert our democracy and subjugate the people and they seem to have no limits.  The strategies they are employing include economic repression, bribery, corrupting public officials, compromising officials, subverting the institutions of good governance, installing leaders in the police force who would do the bidding of the corrupt regime while sidelining those leaders and officers who have integrity, victimization, divide and rule, brain washing and other psychologically perverse games.

There seems to me to be three critical interrelated strategies that are highly important to removing the current ruling regime from governance as removing them would clearly present the best opportunity to restore the essence of the nation.  These three strategies are: attempts to unite the electorate towards success at unseating the current corrupt ruling regime and subsequently building a thriving nation; efforts to break the economic stranglehold that the ruling regime has on the people of Dominica; and continued and enhanced efforts to share information with our people as part of efforts to reach their hearts concerning appropriate political actions and overcoming bad politics such as the use of hate as a political strategy.

Let us begin to look at the details in relation to the first area – the need to unite the electorate.   I concur with J.k Rowling who noted “We are only as strong as we are united; as weak as we are divided”.   But as noted by another writer, even the weak become strong when they are united!  The current ruling regime knows that very well and this is why they are actively seeking to divide and rule our people. But as Jay Weatherill puts it, “you don’t get unity by ignoring the questions that have to be faced.  In the next article we will deepen the discussion on the need to unite the electorate.

Please spread the word about this new weekly column in which we will be taking about the various strategies that can be employed to restore the essence of the nation which spans the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development and its link to good governance.

This is a good piece, but it will take a heavy brain-washing. To get rid of this Labor. Making your citizens depend on government, for food on their table, roof over your head including paying your utility bills.Victory is sure, every 5 yrs. It reminds me of the Democratic party in the U.S. When you say voters should present an I.D. when voting. They say, you are disenfranchising blacks from voting. When you say, the voters list should be updated remove the names of the dead. Democrats crying, voter suppression. When you say instead of giving people hand-outs encourage them to work. You will hear them say. Oh you hate the poor. They are abusing the poor, just to stay in power.
Under Obama and Biden. They put 13.000.000 more on FOOD Stamps and 8.000.000 on the poverty list.
In Chicago Las year 768 homicide.255 more than 2019.
The Republican party want to give parents school choice. You don’t have to send your child to a failing public school. But democrats. with T.Union say no

No, you are wrong.I once was lost, but now am found. Was blind, but now I see. This is God’s grace. But another one is. As a black person, I can think for myself. And you are unable to fathom this one.

    @Leslie

Judge a man by the content of his character not by his looks only. By the way, what is so wrong with that particular hairstyle?

Castigating Mr. Vital’s hairstyle and ignoring the relevance and potency of his message shows how miniscule your brain is.

Some of the most heartless and wicked criminal are clean shaven and dressed in the most expensive suits.

This obsession with one’s hairstyle by some of our own is just profoundly ridiculous.

This article is exceptionally instructive and deserves our full endorsement. I wholeheartedly endorse everything that was so eloquently put forth in the article.

For Dominicans to attain their fullest potential , this will necessitate a change of the current government. To effect the political change that is needed, only the collective efforts of all well informed and right thinking Dominicans at home and abroad will suffice.

Presently our government lacks transparency; our ‘leader’ is bereft of compassion, morals, ethics, vision and intelligence.

A well informed electorate that is willing to work to earn and not depend on handouts and leftovers from the dining table of an avaricious, unpatriotic glutton.

    Postscript:
Dominica is not good enough for Mr. Sherrie and his wife not to give birth to their children. What can be more UNPATRIOTIC than to repudiate the land of your birth? They both view Dominica as their personal ATM.

Why do you make such statements, “They both view Dominica as their personal ATM,” Do you have proof to back up such a statement., wow. Do think making such statement is going to help the agenda you are trying to accomplish, such statement just shows your mind set. You always make a fool of yourself, You talk about a well a well-informed electorate, start with your self, are you a well well-informed electorate, led by example, do you think the comments you make reflects someone who is a well-informed electorate.

        @Gary

You need to amend your busybody mentality. You attack anyone who dares to talk truth to power. Try to focus on Mr. Vital’s pertinent message.

Dominica cannot continue on its present trajectory. Things are spiraling out of control. The incumbents have gone insane. The country is in a precipitous state. The day the CBI program dies, it’s the said day the country experiences a total economic collapse.

Imagine this! The lives of an entire population of people is dependent on the sales of its passports.

All those citizens, including Gary, who still lend support to such an inept regime have lost contact with reality.

When I replied to your comment I questioned a statement you made, “They both view Dominica as their personal ATM,” where is your evidence. Why are you deflecting the issue suggesting that I
I focus on Mr. Vital message, and accusing me of attacking anyone who dares to talk truth to power. You seem to be like Linton playing games with the buzz word truth to power, see where it has brought him. Lol.

Why should I focus on Mr. Vital message, it’s the same narrative as Linton, are we not tired of such narrative, is this how he expects to remove The DLP from office with weekly commentaries on DNO. Mr. Vital was the Leader of a Political Party, what was his accomplishments. Now you have endorsed him as the next poster boy in your political agenda, wow.

I’ve always admired Mr. Vital’s approach. it is clear that he’s a well intentioned intellectual, but I fear the message only resonates with a few who are able to decipher.
In the case of Dominica it appears as if the general population have a very hard time thinking critically or planning strategically….
“they wear their ignorance as a badge of Honor”. Unfortunately, the current Political party exploits this to the maximum.
Thumbs up on this mission Kent!! You have already begun to engage at the community level and that’s the best approach for the current situation.

So Mr. Vidal, you are going to come here and cry about all that is wrong about Dominica and how the wrong can be fixed; and yet you resign from the post of Leadership–a role of which you had the privilege to show the people of Dominica what claiming to be missing in our country, economically and socially–because you were too weak for you and your followers to face the Battle and win the War.

So who is going to listen and take up what you are saying now, when you no longer have the post of leadership?

I think that you should stay away from the media, in that by now everyone has turned a deaf ear towards what you have to say. Talking without action is always useless.

this is the FIRST and maybe the final time, I actually agree with ElizabethLinaXavier. If Kent continues to complain, why did he not do something when he had the platform to do so? He called himself resigning, yet, he comes on her spewing garbage. man, go away already!

If you can refer to such a thought-provoking, stimulating and timely article as garbage then what comes out of the mouths of Lie-nel Skerrit, Foul-mouth Austrie and their colleagues should be regarded as raw human sewage.

This clearly regales that you are depthless and as shallow as a swimming pool without water.

Kent I like you because you are smart, qualified and have great personal and professional skills and leadership qualities. But don’t you think you should restore your ‘hair style’ if you want to be taken more seriously as a leader and a contender? Just asking or rather strongly suggesting Sir?
We are desperately looking for an alternative in DA today to lasso us out of this swamp for we are in deep trouble. Please consider my desperate plea on behalf of all Dominicans with half a brain.

If the choice of a hairstyle will stand between you and making a serious decision of Political capable leadership then you probably should re-consider your role on the “half a brain Dominicans team”.
It may be a cultural anomaly that will eventually be understood that variety is the essence of life and many of our pet peeves are non essential worry.
Support Kent if he has good ideas over whether he clean cut or wear dread locks.

When you describe Mr. Kent Vital as someone whose smart, qualified and have great personal and professional skills and leadership qualities, I will ask you, are saying this as a person who knows Mr. Kent Vitall personally or just through the media., my hunch tell me it is through the Media. What makes you think that if Mr. Vital changed his hairstyle that would make him the more viable candidate you are wising for, what a fantasy, self-deception.

You must never be desperate in seeking a political figure to carry out the agenda you want else in the end you will be disappointed. You choose Political leaders by observation, pay attention to what they say, listen to their narrative, and not be led by your emotions, question the things they say, and pay attention to their actions. The last sentence of your comment portrays such arrogance. Who appointed you to plea on the behalf of Dominicans, writing such silliness, good luck in your act of desperation.

One thing is absolute fact, this man has more intellect than Skerrit, Gucci and these other clowns together. I read people complaining about his style of hair… Well there we go, nothing more to be added. You Gary are one of those notorious and famous won a be intellectuals that come on here occasionally and spew nothing but bs and propaganda for that same person that is responsible for the demise of our beautiful island!!

          February 8, 2021

The situation before us is not about who has more intellect, it is about who can deliver, the bottom line. The new Messiah who wants to restore the essence of the nation what has been his accomplishment from the Party he left, lol. Have you not asked yourself that question before you established your absolute fact If Mr. Vital could not rebuild the Political Party he was given the opportunity to lead what makes you think he has
the answer to restore the essence of the nation, do you think nice words can do it, such a whimsical idea

Why are you associating me with something I’m not, wanting to be an intellectual, it is something I
have a disdain for, because of its limitation, pitfalls and the destruction of the Real self. I just try and make an understanding of things and express my opinion, layman terms. I do not expect everyone to agree with me, nor I’m looking for appraisal.

      Leslie,
Some time ago, I suggested he do SOMETHING with his hair, and a white man named Steve ( I think) jumped allover me. The man is so disheveled it is a downright shame! I, personally, think he just need to go away. As long as he continues looking like Shanaynay, no one is going to listen to him.
