Rianna Patterson to participate at Global Ageing Conference in Scotland, Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting in London

Rianna Patterson, the founder of the Dominica Dementia Foundation, will attend the Global Ageing Conference in Glasgow, Scotland. She will also represent the Commonwealth Association for the Ageing (CommonAge) at the conference.

The biennial conference, organized by the Global Ageing Network, will take place in 2023 in Glasgow. The event is in collaboration with Scottish Care and the National Care Forum, two leading care and support provider associations in Scotland and England.

The conference provides an opportunity for professionals to gather, network, and learn from each other. During the conference, Patterson will deliver a presentation at the annual general meeting of CommonAge as a Duke of Edinburgh Commonwealth Study Conference
Alumni. The presentation will take place on September 6th in Glasgow.

Katie Smith Sloan, Executive Director, The Global Ageing Network said: “This conference comes at a critical time for the social care sector as we look to chart the future in a world that is ageing rapidly. We look forward to being with colleagues from around the world to learn, share, and innovate together.”

Delegates will consist of leaders and professionals from the United Kingdom and throughout the world including owners, sponsors and operators; CEOs and other senior-level executives; along with a vast array of board members, researchers, care innovators, business providers, policymakers, frontline managers and staff, care home residents and community-based clients with lived experience, and family carers.”

Ms Patterson will also be participating in the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting which will be held from September 11 to 15, 2023 in at Marlborough House London. Along with her, a member of the Dominica Dementia Foundation, Shaiel Duverney, will also be attending the event.

The meeting will be chaired by the Government of Pakistan and organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat.   The theme of the meeting is ‘Aim Higher: Delivering More for Young People in the Commonwealth.’

The Commonwealth Secretariat holds a Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting (CYMM) every four years, which includes a Youth Leaders Forum and a Stakeholders Forum. The meeting provides an opportunity for government ministers and senior officials to share their best practices, discuss emerging issues, review innovative initiatives, and establish new partnerships for youth development.

During the week of the Commonwealth Youth Ministerial Meeting, the winners of the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Awards will be announced on September 14, 2023, in London Commonwealth Youth Awards Ceremony. Two Dominicans, Jeanelee Brisbane, and Christianna Paul, have been selected as finalists for this year’s award. Ms. Patterson was a finalist for the Commonwealth Youth Awards in 2022 and served as an adjudicator for the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Awards.

The recommendations from each CYMM are considered by leaders at the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
