Sentencing of Rodman Moses Lewis adjourned for the third time

The sentencing of Rodman Moses Lewis has been adjourned for the third time after the prosecution indicated that they intend to cross examine Consultant Psychiatrist Dr. Nadia Wallace and a Welfare Officer based on their report.

Lewis was convicted in November 2020 for the November 2015 murder of his ex-girlfriend and child’s mother, Triscia Riviere, at the end of a six and a half week trial.

Following his conviction, the court set Monday, 1st February, 2021, for sentencing but the matter was adjourned as information mandated by the court in order to proceed with sentencing, was not available.

Prior to adjourning the matter to March 16,  2021, Justice Wynante Adrien- Roberts ordered that a psychiatric evaluation  for Lewis be presented before that date.

However, on the adjourned date, the psychiatric report required was not available as Dr. Wallace had failed to comply with the court’s order and had not provided any reason for her non-compliance.

As such, a bench warrant was issued for her arrest  and later vacated and May 4, 2021, was set as the new date for sentencing.

At the sentence hearing yesterday,  Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sherma Dalrymple said that Dr. Wallace’s report as well as the Social Inquiry report by a Welfare Officer required “extensive examination.”

The matter was adjourned to May 7, 2021.

Before further remanding Lewis, Justice Adrien-Roberts informed him that all the actions taken by the court thus far are in keeping with what the law provides.

I just can’t understand why a person of such a profession needed a bench warrant to show up in court, as she was supposed to do professionally. And why, after this scenario, she was still allowed to produce that report. No wonder her report needs an extensive examination–good heavens!

Well thank you Ibo France, but I believe that you only object to my comments when I write for the Labour Party and PM Skerrit. That is why most of the time I don’t respond to you all’s comments against mine because there is no good in doing so. Thanks again!

Reading between the lines it appears that Dr. Wallace just may be the major stumbling to the sentencing of this cold blooded murderer. Now the family members of the deceased have to relive the events of that fatal day.

Does anything work as it should anymore in Dominica? The government, the police, the court, the healthcare system, the welfare system, the electoral system, the labour department, in fact, the whole of the public service have failed the people’s hopes, expectations and aspirations miserably.

Dominica is beyond a shadow of doubt a FAILED STATE. The most frightening thing it is getting worse by the day.

From de onset Dr Wallace ignored the Court order….. a bench warrant was issued for arrest…..to me that signalled something sinister.
In my opinion de Court made a good decision to examine de psychiatric report
