Hello and good evening my people. Every time we get some rain it’s the same old stuff. Our government keep giving scholarships to students to go abroad and study to be doctors but they don’t return to Dominica. We need construction engineers and architects to design and build our country infrastructure. Why can’t we build a simple bridge to scale the river without obstructing the water flow. I am tired of reading about this same problems and it seems like we don’t have anyone who can solve such simple things. Grow up my country. One don’t have to be smart to analyze such issues and come up with a plan to solve it.

From time immemorial we have had experiences with our culvert bridges and the authorities should have realized by now that something different is required. With the large volume of water during heavy rains debris including logs etc are carried down stream and they end up blocking the narrow mouths of the culverts causing the water to then flow elsewhere including over the bridge and around them causing tremendous damage. Where are the engineers in the country especially in the ministry of public works to come up with designs of suspended structures which will allow large amounts if debris to flow freely. Some bridges especially the Rosalie, Sari Sari, etc are known for suffering overflows when it rains. It’s high time that the cabal begin to address the continuous suffering and plight of the residents in susceptible communities. Where is the resilience we hear bandied around. Is it only for show?. Fix the bridges. it’s high time.

We are suffering the effects of global warming, foisted upon us by rich nations that are compromised by the fossil fuel lobby in a corrupt system where conflict of interest is the order of the day. A 1 degree rise in the average global temperature permits 8% more moisture content in the atmosphere. This process has been accelerated only this century by the “dash for gas”, in other words FRACKING, a process that injects poison into the earth’s crust and releases considerable amounts of methane into the atmosphere. Methane is approx. 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas. More moisture in the air means more extreme weather, i.e. more severe rain.

Our older bridges were OK at the time they were built, but for today’s conditions their replacements need to be over-designed. In the cellphone clip above the bridge at Laplaine seems to have survived whilst the banks either side gave way, allowing for this bridge to be extended by adding a few more culverts.

      Nonsense okay!
How come global warming does not affect the construction of roads globally except in Dominica?

Poor construction, using the cheapest asphalt, when they should be using bitumen which is a stronger element when cured; proper design for drainage, and water runoff would make a difference; your problem in Dominica is absolutely poor planing.

Soil-erosion plagues the country, they keep repaving the same spots, rather than deviating from the original route, as long as they keep doing the same thing the result will be the same every time!

I’m sorry folks. Our passport money is to build houses for young ladies and not to build bridges. So instead of you all standing there gazing, just start a fire and have a picnic by the river. The cyrique/yellow crabs 🦀 are right there all you need is a bag of flour for small and big Dumplings 🥟. Stop wasting time standing idly by.

Every time there is inclement weather with moderate or heavy and continuous showers, the roads and bridges are easily compromised. Why is this? It is manifestly clear that these structures (esp. roads, bridges, culverts) are defective.

How can you build roads on sloping lands without the proper drainage system to channel the large volume of water in such a way so it does not damage the roads and bridges? It’s not a good idea to do any patch work on the damaged infrastructure. It needs proper engineering. The government must stop being penny wise and pound foolish.

Again, I call for a new network of roads and bridges. The country needs this for easy commute, increase in economic activity, and to save lives and property during rain storms.

It is full time for this twenty four year Labour administration to do something transformational to lift this country to unparallel heights.

Ibo France, did you hear the story about the former Baker/Business man who allegedly got a contract to build two bridges in North Dominica after tropical storm Erica? Their only qualification was that they’re red, red, red. One is not sure whether to laugh of cry at the situation.

Is that true Jaunita or you just trying to be facetious? Your claim cannot be frivolously dismissed as this Roosevelt led shady autocracy suffers from an incurable disease of gestational corruption.

Resiliency is all I see, in the only resilient nation on the planet with resilient roads, houses, people and agricultural plants who ans which cannot die, we bend and return to our original form!
So, I wonder how come the resilient roads are so easily broken up and washed away as soon as it rains?

Oh, sorry my mistake; perhaps Roosevelt Skerrit forgot to apply his resilient test to ensure his resilient obeah (voodoo) to prevent such damage of the infrastructure was used to build all the damage roads mentioned.

Roosevelt was asked the reason for an university saw it fit to bestow an honourable doctorate on him. He pompously retorted that it was for his tireless effort and hard work in making Dominica the first resilient country in the world.

Now look at the damage caused throughout the country after some steady downpours of heavenly blessings. Roads, bridges, landslips, flooding, erosion occurred almost everywhere around the country.

Roosevelt saying he was rewarded for his work in making Dominica resilient, is the same as Satan proclaiming that he is sinless.

lbo, it’s a bad thing, when people who lie can’t remember there lies!
The man in Punjab who took Roosevelt money (the man who sold) Roosevelt that useless bit of paper, when asked the reason for bestowing an honorary degree on Roosevelt, responded by saying “because of his long tenure in politics.”
Be reminded that was long before the hurricane.
So let’s find out how the world resilient became synonymous in Dominica. After Maria devastated the country: the crook Roosevelt woke up that morning and said “we are invincible.” A day passed and King Charles of England after seeing the destruction in the country in a comment said “the people of Dominica are a resilient.”
Hence, from there on we were no more invincible, we became resilient.
Resilience (resilient) simply means something that can bend and return to its original shape or form!
There’s no such thing as making a country resilient’ that is a fool’s sentiment!
If Roosevelt wishes to be a fool let him he is the joke!
