Shop local and more; Roseau Christmas Village showcases local creativity

The Roseau Christmas Village officially opened at the Botanic Gardens on Friday evening, allowing several local entrepreneurs to showcase their creativity and talent at the event.

“The Christmas Village is also a platform where local entrepreneurs will showcase their creativity and talent,” Parliamentary Representative of the Roseau Central Constituency Melissa Poponne-Skerrit stated. “You will notice handmade crafts are done with tropical motifs to locally sourced food and drink.”

According to her, the Roseau Christmas Village will embody the essence of Dominica’s culture, craftsmanship, and creativity.

“And so, I encourage you to buy, I encourage you to shop…,” she urged. “Ladies let’s give Amazon and Shein a break this Christmas and let’s gift to one another from here, because you will be supporting our local entrepreneurs.”

Poponne-Skerrit continued, “And do not forget, importantly to connect with each other.”

Furthermore, she pointed out that the Christmas Village is a place where one can cozy-up with a festive cocktail and enjoy delicious food.

“The open-air shopping itself also has several new vendors and eateries,” she explained.

She urged Dominicans to support these small businesses.

Poponne-Skerrit went on to state that the Roseau Christmas Village provides a safe and secure family-friendly environment for children to enjoy a variety of holiday activities including live music, fun and games, and Santa and the North Pole characters to name a few.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit was also elated about the Christmas Village, especially where the small businesses are concerned.

“As my wife has indicated they are catering for 60 plus small businesses across Dominica who will showcase their local talents and the products of Dominica and place them on sale,” he stated. “I know that in the years that the Parl Rep has had this Christmas Village numerous small businesses across Dominica have benefited and tonight we have over 40 of them already set up and ready to go.”

Another very important element of this Christmas Village he said is the shared joy it brings to citizens of Dominica, especially the children and senior citizens.

“And the fact that this is a space where families can come together, a safe place and an opportunity for us to enjoy ourselves and to really appreciate the true spirit of Christmas…” Skerrit noted.

He urged everyone to turn out in large numbers along with their families to support the event.

Nobody has ever thought that Roosevelt was the valedictorian of his class. No one has ever accused Melissa of being intelligent. Contrary to common sense, these two are at the pinnacle of political power in Dominica. This is insanity!

The husband gives his wife full financial support from the coffers of the state to decorate her ego and beautify her constituency to compensate for her pedestrian and embarrassing performances in parliament.

What the constituents look forward to are good paying, sustainable jobs. They need opportunities to empower themselves and refrain from taking alms throughout the year, especially at this special season.
