Skerrit responds to Peters’ statements; reforms slated for parliament in January 2024

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has responded to statements made by President of the Dominica State College (DSC) Dr. Donald Peters during the DBS Radio ‘Discoveries’ program on Sunday night, where he threatened to take legal action against the government of Dominica if a bill is ever adopted to prevent Dominicans living overseas from voting during general elections.

During a live interview on DBS Radio on Tuesday morning, the Prime Minister said while Dominica goes ahead with the process of electoral reform one has to be very careful.

“Dr. Peters, like anybody else, has a right to seek the court’s decision on any matter, and in respect to this matter he has his right to do so,” he said. “He has a point to some extent in that we have to be very careful with the legislation that we take to parliament in so far as any appearance seeking to disenfranchise anybody from their constitutional and fundamental right to vote in elections in Dominica.”

He continued, “This is what we have sought to try to alert and to draw attention to the wider public that we must not approach the issue of electoral reform or electoral modernization from an emotional standpoint.”

The Prime Minister added, “We have to look first at the constitution and then the laws and ensure that the process would not disenfranchise people from their constitution and fundamental right to vote.”

According to him, the government has listened to all of the points raised at the recently held series of consultations on electoral reform and has taken note of advice, suggestions, and observations, and will seek to finalize the legislation in respect to electoral modernization.

Meanwhile, Mr. Skerrit announced that his government plans to go to parliament with the reform in early January 2024.

His hope is to usher in 2024 with a new page setting aside the differences so that focus can be placed on the economic and social development of the country.

“I think that 2024 should be a year when the legislation would have passed and the electoral commission is given the legal authority to proceed with the reforms,” he noted.

it is the same foolishness with UWP.According to the constitution Skerrit CANNOT ram a candidate down anybody throat,he can nominate a candidate,It is up to the leader of the opposition in the first instance or parliament to make a person President. As for no law no constitution, the constitution makes it clear that dual citizens can be nominated as candidates to contest general elections in Dominica.Read the constitution instead of posting comments like a Jacka.DNO should educate all you.As for you that recurring Jacka Francisco,Dr Peters is way smarter than you or any other supporter of UWP.Dr.Peters know based on support Skerrit cannot ,and will not, remove any overseas voters names from the voters list.We who built this country after Maria is not only going to court with government we are REMOVING them from office. In 1979 we warned the then DLP government, they did not listen. Now we are warning government again,DO NOT remove overseas registered voters names from the voters list.

You idiot: if you had 1/3 = 0.3333 as I have in my head, you would be smarter than Peters you see. I am happy to ware the crown as a jacka..; but no matter what you do, you can’t be like me, I am academic; I am an intellectual, both college and University educated; graduated too!

And surely, I would never allow myself to talk the rubbish that Donald Peters spoke!

Both you and Donald that old rat are kissing up to Roosevelt, like the two yard foul, turn lap dogs you both are looking for something, a handout from him.

I could care less what you call me; And Admin I do not mind being called a jacka.., I’ve been called worst than that before; by people coming to find out all they have is their big mouth and a cell phone.
Anybody reading that sill, that stupid clown does not have any difficulties realizing that person may not have finished elementary school.

I don’t sing for my dinner or survival; I am a man with everything I want out of life.
      Keep barking lap…

Ohh my, all of a sudden constitutional rights are important to this misguided soul? Where is the constitution when you want to ram your candidate for president down Dominica’s throat? You did it with Savarin, and you are trying again. Where is the constitution when you said “no law no constitution… blah, blah blah”? Like all tin pot tyrants, you only choose to acquiesce sections that suit you. Well the constitution is our guiding law, and has to be taken as a whole document. Not to pick and choose what suits your deceitful endeavours.

A dark cloud is hanging over Dominica. Young men are dying senselessly every day due to the high amount of drugs and guns being imported into the country by zafan sans papa, the Rapacious one and his cabal. How many more lives will be sacrificed at the altar of the unholy in order to satisfy the bloodlust of the Rapacious one that is taking over the country. Look deep into his eyes and you can see the eyes of Satan on earth. What will it take to rid us of this evil presence in Dominica?

Skerrit likes to say thst the citizens have recourse to the Court. But does he control the COURT system? What happened to the large amiunt of money found at Terre Platte in the north? Who owned the vehicle that was found on the premises? Remember when the CCJ wanted the election matter brought by Antoine Defoe (deceased), Mervin Jno Baptiste and Edincort St Valle to be heart at the magistrate court, what the Skerrit government did? So this man is full of dirty deceitful tricks, he lies, cheats and will do all matters of evil to hang on to power illegally or otherwise. He is the reason for the dark cloud hanging over Dominica which manifests itself into so many negatives on island.

Words of honesty that cannot be truthfully refuted. With high indebtedness, high crime rate, high unemployment, high poverty, high corruption, high divisiveness, high political partisanship, high NCDs, high inflation, Dominica is on a high for ALL the wrong reasons.

Dominica is on the periphery of a failed state. One corrupt individual, the Merchant of Corruption, aided by his attack raccoons, has taken us here. Getting rid of him with immediacy is vital to our survival.

      Shut up!
Donald Peters is not a lawyer, that reprobate, is as any other scoundrel in Roosevelt regime, I would not put it pass Skerrit to influence him to write such nonsense.

That old Goolagong does not have a clue of how common law works; asks Donald to differentiate from civil law, common law, hybrid mixed system law.
Ask that clown to describe constitutional law, statutory law, administrative, regulation, and case law, in detail how they work; he could not answer not even a child in kindergarten!

      Doctor my gluteus maximus?

You see anybody can make fools out you all just because you all call him doctor, don’t mean squat; what kind of doctor would talk such crap!
If he has a Ph.D in education, that’s not a big deal, anybody can get that these days especially in Europe, Canada, and the United States, one can work and go to university on the weekend and earn such degree.
And if that’s the case he still does not have a law degree, so he need and I Peters need to shut…

With September almost over, October, November and December left in 2023…No discussion thus far after the consultations, but you are talking about going to parliament with the reforms in January 2024! Have we heard of what will happen or is happening with all the ideas brought out at the consultations? Are you already privy to what the reforms will be? Are you provoking the people? Is electoral reform a Skerrit thing?
I do hope that CONCERNED Dominicans are hearing your utterances!!
Based on past records, the Skerrit Labour Party (SLP), is NOT TRUSTWORTHY….Their forte has been a sordid litany of lies, stealing, deceit, cheating, etc..This is aided and abetted by shameless acolytes who are rewarded with pieces of silver.

    Dr. Peters my feces!

Roosevelt you know that Peters has spoken a pile on bulls…, all that poppet, that lap dog is doing is simple running his ole mouth off want to be important.

As a matter of fact I don’t think there is any precedent on which he could base his case, he would look like a bloody clown presenting a frivolous case. But as everything else there must be a first in Dominica.
What this idi..; is talking about is like me coming to Dominica and file a law suite against you demanding you declare your assets prior to you becoming prime minister, and comparing it to you accumulated wealth of the day.
Can I do that; I think not since there is no precedence on I could base my complaint!
As I said: ‘ there is no fool like an old fool’ that piece of rag should keep his mouth shut, ans keep his rubbish to himself!

ds, if you had any commonsense, reading that above would tell you the corrupted crook Roosevelt might be hypocritical about the crap the damn little boy Peters spoke.
Nevertheless, I read Skerrit comments to mean he is dissociating himself with Peters and his rubbish, hogwash sentiments!
You with no form of cognition, humiliates your person with the rubbish you wrote, in reference to Roosevelt dissociation with Peters bull!
If Peters was not dumb he would know he is talking nonsense, which lawyer would make a fool of themselves to represent Peters crap?

Is there nobody in the country capable of shutting up this man? I mean it’s none of his business. This is the business of the electoral commission. Nothing to do with Skerrit, Gucci or the government.you should do what we pay you for. Electoral Reform has nothing to do with You, Skerrit. Why is he so eager to do other peoples job? I ask you all, why is Mister so eager? Why do we allow him to interfere???????

Right on point. This is not Skerrit’s job or that of the government. The Electoral Commission has the mandate to run elections. The Commission should be the one saying what is needed to improve the system.

I just don’t know why DNO is not getting a statement from the Commission or at least the Chairman in that regard.
