Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has explained his reason for calling the general election on December 6.
Dominicans already knew that the election would be announced soon based on Skerrit’s statement on October the 13th at the launch of DLP candidate, Kent Edwards, that election would be within 100 days.
However, many did not expect the prime minister to make the announcement of the specific date on Tuesday night at a Labour Party Got Talent event in Goodwill.
“Keeping in mind the issue of what is best for our country, I have decided that given the divisive nature of general elections, campaigning should not be carried out into the New Year,” he said.
Skerrit said he is confident that the DLP warrants re-election based on its accomplishments.
“Many of you have gotten jobs, housing, support for your business, pension as a senior, free medicine or healthcare for your children. You have benefited from the policies and work of the labour party…” he said.
According to him, the DLP has not only looked after labour party supporters but the entire country.
“Even the opposition has been given constituency offices to help the people in their constituencies. The entire country of Dominica has benefited from the Dominica Labour Party,” he said.
Skerrit said further that the DLP has brought Dominica through some of its toughest times in history.
Additionally, he said in the last 15 years, the DLP had done more for seniors in Dominica than all previous governments did during the preceding 50 years.
“There will be more benefits for seniors with a re-elected Dominica Labour Party Administration,” Skerrit noted.
Meanwhile, Skerrit said Dominica must mark the start of the third decade of the 21st century with a clear decision about who will lead the country into its future.
There is a dictatorship king in the making on Dominica, soon the subjects will be looking at a shining golden castle on Morn Bruce built with ill gotten money. They will bulldoze down the cross to make room so that everyone can see it all over Roseau while bowing down in obedience to their glorious leader.

I have been one who has been calling the election date between December 2, and 9. The December 6 date does not surprise me and anyone caught flat footed has not been following and reading the politics right. The campaign for the Labour Party began in Londonderry many many months ago and was followed by Sunday Rallies in the Constituencies of new candidates. The strategy has lived its course and night meetings will now take place until a crescendo rally closer to the election date, likely the Melissa Rally on Sunday November 25.
PM does not have to justify this date. Labourites and other supporters are ready to vote now and move into the festivities of the Christmas season. To carry the poll into the new year would’ve been political madness. Another master stroke.

Not because they got things. As of yesterday the President is incharge and skerrit is an ordinary citizen so i hope people understand once Parliament dissolve he cannot be controlling any of country accounts, police, ministries, and gov property. It is a crime. Skerrit is no longer prime minister and now is the best time for Dominicans to demonstrate shut the country down for electoral reform force the president to act since within this time the constitution gives him power over the land until a prime minister is sworn in. Skerrit has no authority to order police or anyone to act. If he does or tries it would be illegal. Force charles saverin hands now.
I went to this man for assistance for my sick elderly mum and our house. The man did not even had the courtesy to look at me when i was explaining to him why i was in his office. My mum died. Never got any help from that government. Our descision is made long ago. my seven children and i can never put you back in office. That household in Roseau will not vote. Try to change our minds somebody. Red black or blue.
By not voting, you are in fact voting for the incumbent to leave the very person who is in power, in power: the same man who did this to you and your family. What will your justification be on December 7th? How are you going to honour the memory of your mother, who probably could be here with you today if you had received some help- we just don’t know… it is always better to try something to save a person’s live, than to do nothing, as nothing was done for you by a man who did not respect you enough to even look at you while you were talking.
The recommended reforms were not implemented before elections. As in your situation, if UWP does not contest, then the outcome will be exactly the same- the one in power will remain.
On December 7th, it could well be the same man whom clearly you dislike. You and your family must vote, the best way you can protest and get some satisfaction as a result of what was done to you guys by such a heartless and cruel person.

Skerritt there are leaks in your circle. You chose a Friday because that’s the most convenient day for diadporians. They could not get the opportunity during the week so you chose Friday when they can come to vote and return in time for work on Monday. As for all the other reasons you are laying out let me make this point. Do I have to thank the ATM for giving me my money? No. Why have you been PM for fifteen years? It is to provide the basic necessities that you are outlining. Should the people glorify you for providing the necessities? Hell no! That’s what you have been stealing our money for. Once the elections are over you became the PM of Dominica. So to say even the opposition got constituency office is rubbish. They are enttitled to just as much as you and your cabal.
