Skerrit urges civilians who have been brutalized by police to bring matter to due process

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that citizens whose rights have been trampled upon by the police can bring the matter to the attention of the Chief of Police and Attorney General.

He was addressing a press briefing recently.

According to him, no one in the country is above the law and everyone has rights as provided for in the constitution.

“Nowhere in the law [allows] anybody to trample on anybody’s rights, to brutalize anybody, to unlawfully detain anybody,” he said. “I would urge anybody whose rights have been trampled upon by the police to bring the matter to the attention of the Chief of Police and the Attorney General of Dominica and we will give you the assurances that these matters will be properly investigated.”

Mr. Skerrit said there is evidence to show that the Chief of Police has in fact taken action where cases of brutality have been brought to his attention.

However, in defense of the police, he said people must understand that the police have a job to do.

“In the defense of the police we have to understand the police have a job to do and the police will need to carry out its duties and to ensure that the state is secured,” Mr. Skerrit stated.

He continued, “If the police are engaging you in discussion and you want to engage the police in a confrontation, then the police will have a right to protect himself and his colleagues who are out on duty.”

Prime Minister Skerrit added, “Sometimes we say things [are] police brutality, but sometimes the police are really carrying out their duties and I think it is important for us to allow the police to carry out their duties.”

“Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that citizens whose rights have been trampled upon by the police can bring the matter to the attention of the Chief of Police and Attorney General.”

Roosevelt you are nothing more than a hypocrite, trying to prove nothing; by talking as usual!
You are just more than a little bit too late; for police officers has physically assaulted and beat people in your name: when the poor man was beaten in the rain, and asked the police scoundrel “why are you beating me?”

The police culprit, a bit of human garbage in the matter exclaimed! ” Because you are cursing the ‘prime minister.’

Roosevelt may I remind you the bit of human garbage who beat the old man used a brass knuckle on the man; something that is illegal to use on humans allover the world!

And who the hell are you little boy that people cannot say what they wish about, that damn corrupted crook!

    Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

    Shut up!

Skerrit how many cases you have heard about and nothing happen, how many people your police kill up till now their family cannot get regress, how many people your police abuse, and nothing came out of it. When the people take the bull by horn then you will say the police must up hole the law , it might be to late.

Telling the abused people to alert THEIR ABUSER is complete nonsense. Police brutality should be reported to the Chief of Police?
How do they even go about contacting the Attorney General?

The fact is Skerrit Dominic needs a Civilian Police Review Board comprising of independent thinkers (not political appointees) on either side) to investigate and recommend action to be taken by the state on police misconduct. That would include indictment, termination and other forms of punishment.

This guy Skerrit is a joker, and he is clueless about police abuses. What a disgrace.

Ya right, and same for loud music in neighborhoods where there are numerous complaints. But even protected by the well crafted ‘Noise Abatement Act’ that the same police organization take pleasure ignoring. :)

Please, nothing will be done. Courts dont usually rule against governments and public officers acting in their official capacities.

What is happening with the murder of Mr. Prosper who was beaten to death by a police officer? Why has that case been prosecuted as yet? Why this protracted delay?

What about the police officer from the Kalinago territory that pumped five or six bullets into an unarmed civilian?

The dead ( Kerwin Prosper) cannot cry out for justice. It is the duty of the living to do so for him and others who have met the same fate.

Oh how gleefully the devil smiles when he is lying to the very best of his ability!

But my people, patience is a virtue so be ye therefore not discouraged because Putin made Prigozhin and he turned on him. As god is my witness, the same police that the devil is using to brutalize us today will have their time to day-karlay him in due course. Nothing lasts forever and therefore he will be investigated some day soon and when he gets two paytam slaps by his ears followed by a powerful faxx under his belly for lying to the investigator I hope he never complains. God is good all the time……

What a lying charlatan this man is. The police do what he tells them to do. Recent wilful arrest of UWP politicians bear all his hallmarks. This man is a disgusting creature that has no shame but has been consumed by greed and corruption.

You are absolutely on point. This despicable creature has destroyed the moral compass of the country and retard the economy. Every sector of the civil service is in rapid decline. The health sector, economic sector, the agriculture and manufacturing sectors, no sector has been unaffected.

This man lies so frequently that he now believes his own lies. He is completely shocked even when his most diehard supporters believe his lies. Lies, corruption and gross incompetence have crippled the development of Dominica under his disastrous stewardship. He has to go, the sooner the better.

This is just a statement of appeasement from an uncaring, brutal man who uses his armed thugs (‘ police’) to intimidate, suppress, oppress, maim and at times kill unarmed civilians.

This evil hypocrite has used these same undisciplined, loose forces to threaten, disrupt and bludgeon peace civilians from participating in peaceful walks throughout Roseau. It is a clear violation of their human and constitutional rights.

Roosevelt and the goons in his militia are quite comfortable using brute force as most of the media houses, like DNO, remain mind-bogglingly reticent. This is clearly a dereliction of their journalistic duties.

In the face of blatant corruption, beast-like brutality, and this galloping dictatorship in Dominica without a word of concern by the lazy, docile media, they too are complicit in the dumbing down and raping of the country.

      Good observation!

Throughout his present tenure in government some twenty years and counting, Dominicans have been subjected to the most heinous acts of brutality by Roosevelt’s rogue military forces. For twenty years and counting he has remained astonishingly unperturbed by the atrocities committed.

In fact, it appears that those in his paramilitary who are engaged in these wicked and unsavory acts of brutality are rewarded with promotion to the highest echelon.

      Oh! Thou forked tongue HYPOCRITE!

All these blue monkey thumbs up making you feel great about yourself, yet, you still lose the General Election big time each time. What exactly is wrong around that time? Everything you write just implodes like the titanic vessel on Election Day. It only goes to show that your garbage cannot run deep down enough and implodes when they are about to resurface on Election day.

Just watch the FAKE smile!! DEVILISH!!
Anytime it’s Chief of Police or Attorney General that brutalised people are to report to, there will be no redress.
We need an “Independent Commission of Investigation” like Jamaica. In Jamaica this commission is called “INDECOM”….It is a civilian staffed state agency. It’s impartial and blame goes independently where it is supposed to. Dominica is awashed with money, why you can’t give the people what they need….The CDPF has a lot of poorly trained, illdisciplined, stupid, dunce, and politically unapproachable goons. Protect the people from those devils. They escalate situations instead of de escalating..They were largely enlisted into the CDPF during your fetid reign as PM, to ensure your perpetuity in office; reasons why you are sending aggrieved members of the public to Carbon or Levi..You know dam well nothing will happen!
    WICKED!!
