The legacy of ‘Black Wall Street’ and what it means now and for Juneteenth

In 1921 what was considered the most affluent Black-American neighbourhood of the time ,a section of Tulsa Oklahoma, dubbed “Black Wall Street” was subject to possibly the worst racial massacre in US history.

Over 35 blocks of black owned businesses and homes were destroyed and burnt to the ground over the course of one evening and many lost their lives or were made refugees in their own country.

This unrestrained law enforcement supported attack on a wealthy black community came at a time when lynchings were commonplace and a tide of racial killings were washing over the country in the years leading up to the massacre.

It’s clear that with the recent killings of blacks by American police officers and the subsequent world-wide protests the US and the world still feels that lingering racial legacy even today.

The following Guardian article sheds some contextual light on that historic moment.

Editor’s note: Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.  Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.-https://www.juneteenth.com/history.htm

Remember The Most High, Creator of heaven and earth and ALL that is within, cautioned his elect, the seed of Abraham, not to mix with the heathen nations for fear His People who are called by His name would inevitably take on the abominable and idolotrous ways of Esau’s descendants. Sounds like segragation to me. If you do not believe check out what the Old Testament says.

This article pertains to black Americans. Our slavery ended before theirs. and we have our own black wallstreet in Dominica, which we are failing at. Still dependent of european charity and donorship on a yearly basis. subject to their terms and conditions.

So when they gonna mention that the first recorded slave owner in the US was actually a black man. The fact that our own black brothers were the ones who sold us into slavery. And the Barbary slave trade when millions of Europeans were sold into slavery in North Africa .

Every racist laws that were brought, were by the democrats, And Republican party always opposed it. Again prove me WRONG.
It was the racist governor of Alabama George Wallace (democrat) who in his inauguration speech said,
    “Segregation today, segregation tomorrow,segregation forever.”
And true to his words, he personally went & blocked the way,to prevent negro students from enrolling at the state University in Birmingham.
After a federal Court order to desegregate the University.
Orval Faubus governor of Arkansas (Democrat) refused to allow black students from attending “Little Rock Central High School.”
He sent National Guards 2 block them. President Eisenhower (Republican) sent soldiers to escort the black children.
The sad thing is very election dems get 90% of our votes.
I have plenty more to say,,,,BUT

Nothing wrong with segregation. Malcom X tought that segregation was the ony was that black Americans would ever get peace. while Martin wanted inclusion to sit n eat and tolerate racism for decades to come, malcom saw that for true peace you had to leave those oeple alone. why do you think we have more freedom in the caribbean. We dont have white rule in our faces everyday. they left the colonies for us. However its is different in America. Why force someoen who wont even accept you as a human being to be allowed in their place. might be better to find your own place and be comfortable. hence tula oklahoma. But the white man wasnt happy seeing blacks prosper and comfortable. that is another story

DNO,something is missing, in this conversation. It was the blacks in Africa who sold their own fellow blacks to the whites.Yes this was a crime against blacks.
The problem is, the Doctors and lawyers are the ones always reminding us, even the Guardian News Organization who are pretending to be independent, If you are really independent, please educate us. Can you let us know “Between Republican and Democrat which of the two, that perpetuated this misery on the blacks in the U.S.?
The writer remain silent on this issue, but launched an attack on Trump.
It was the southern states which was controlled by democrats, which did every thing possible to keep negros in slavery. It was they who introduced Poll Tax and all Jim Crow laws.
Even in democratic primaries blacks were not allowed to participate.
The KKk was founded by the whites southerners (democrats) to inflict violence against black leaders and white republicans.
Tell us every racist laws, were introduced and supported by dem

If people are serious about dealing with this matter, then the cause, effect and remedies must be dealt with. For example, some of the matters to be addressed would include: what happened, what was the effect, who did it, how do we prevent it from happening in the future and what is fair compensation for the harm suffered?

Only some of what you said is true. Whites sold whites as well but Christian missionary propaganda begun spreading the narrative of blacks sold blacks to gain more footing on people like you. Whites selling their own dates as far back as the romans who also sold Germanic tribes causing the white Jews to flee into Russia and elsewhere until another Jew Hitler decimated those remaining in Germany.
Did you know you can marry your white chick and still not bring down Black people? I did not bring up your wife, you did. That’s how you fellas speak.

But what does this have to do with Dominica? Our Emancipation day in August nobody cares, but you all getting hype up on old US history. Do black Americans care about West Indians or Africans?
If you are born in the US and you are broke, its because you are lazy. Africans and West Indians do way better in the US than these entitled blacks with US citizenship when they have welfare, low income housing, scholarships and affirmative action to give them a footing in life. Not to forget the all important work permits from the get go!!

DNO, there are way more pressing things to handle in Dominica, from the $9 million tax refund Skerrit gave to Dominica Strong, to the yet to be disclosed International Development Association (IDA) financing of US$13 million for Dominica airports.

Sad very sad indeed. I’m not a racist but
I’ll say this, if these people can enslave human beings for hundreds of years, and rather go to war than stop such evil, then to adopt a habbit to massacre whole towns of Black people is as easy as reading their bible. The Wretched of The Earth.

President Trump earns the right,to launch his pre-election victory rally in this venue.Because apart from president Abraham Lincoln (Republican)no other president has done more for blacks in the U.S.
If you disagree, name the one,and also mention the things he has done for blacks. And I will mention what Trump has done.

That still doesn’t prove white supremacy that they set you up to do.
Oh snap it’s JJ the Republican again, sorry… the happy Republican. Lol lol
Don’t preach to us, tell that to John Bolton. We have Workers and Labor to worry about here, not your white supremacist idiots.

Please do not twist Juneteenth and Black wall street, as the ancients have told us, “Truth crushed to Earth will Rise again”, 2yrs after the En-Slaved African in the state of Texas should have been Freed, they were still held Captive. The narrative is, that on a particular day, a retired Military officer was riding by, and seeng the Africans chained up, he enquired if the Africans knew that they should have been freed from bondage, this is Jteenth. Black wall street Massacre and Distruction, tells us of the Continuous Hate and Deceit that exist towards the African by the so-called White Man. Black Wall street in Ocklahoma was the blue print for what China has become. Marcus Garvey, the New york Rennaisanse, and Black wall St, was what the ROARING Twenties was all about, the advancement of the African after Emancipation. All destroyed by the GREED, and Hate of White America . Dominica’ own MASSACRE, now a Village, have a parallel history. BLACK POWER, is knowing the HISTORY.
