Ti Orkest in action

Blazing their way through the musical world, Dominican based band ‘Ti Orkest” ( meaning little Orchestra) was established in December 2010.

A strong blend of musical talent, musicians stay true to the band’s title, operating like an orchestra.

Persistence, accuracy and dedication drives members Creig Henry (band manager), Dexter Ulysses (bass guitarist), Stanton Guiste (Lead guitarist) Carlos Williams (male vocalist),Shalina Samuel  and Melinda Ulysses (female vocalists) Gerant Guiste and Bernet Serrant (Keyboardist), Vernandra Christian ( drummer) to continuously strive to be the best.

With experiences based on carnival performances in Mahaut and La Plane, promotional co-operate events at LIME Dominica, and with Kubuli at Mero beach, and requested performances at local businesses such as Ma Boyd’s (Kubuli) Bar, The Banana Tree (Formerly known as Garage) and Isho’s bar, the Girl’s Night Out: Macka Diamond ( Where the band was the only live band on the line up), Fort Young’s Jazz n Creole on May17th , the ICT festival on the 4th of July,The Carib Beer rebranding (which airs on Tempo Caribbean),feasts and festivals including our most recent performance at the 2013 Creole in the Park and The World Creole Music Festival, and the Colihaut Eat Fish Nights, the band has proven its ability to be versatile.

Apart from inescapable roots in the local genres of Bouyon and Cadence,an insatiable thirst for music propels each member of the band to persistently dabble in almost every genre of music, From Reggae and sweet Kompas, all the way to Classical and House Music, Ti Orkest truly has “Different strokes for different folks”. Infact the band has just released an original soca composition entitled” Handle It”

The band works towards being an irreplaceable, refreshing and powerful icon, at the forefront of the music industry, bringing people together, touching every corner of the globe and doing what they love! The band does not indulge in obscenity and indecent language or lyrical content, and reflects dignity and pride in its appearance and disposition.

Finally the band promises to always emit that “feel good vibe” from our unique sound.

Ti Orkest, the future is in our music.

This band is good. I love them. Their energy is great, they have a very tight bond with each other on and off stage, like a family. As a band, they have work to do, like all other bands in this world. The thing is in Dominica the music industry is not so developed and so members of any band can’t depend only on gigs to sustain life, they have to work to make ends meet, and so it takes up practice time both as individual musicians/vocalists and as a band. Hence the reason why most local bands improve slowly or don’t improve at all. Ti orkest is clearly a band which improves with time and this is a great sign for their future. This band has its own WOW factor in the sense that many other bands focus mainly on bouyon and soca, but not Ti Orkest. They showcase a wide variety of genres and this makes them fit to be a band for any occasion. When it comes to appearance, this band has a good thing going on. They are always decently dressed, the girls even mix n match, they reveal what they came on stage to reveal; talent! Their behavior on stage is superb, not everyone likes that bump and grind style that many other entertainers portray, I mean come on it’s kinda getting old, especially when they do the same moves over and over. The entertainers of this band also remain dressed on stage unlike other bands I’ve seen. All in all the band is doing very well and should keep up their good work and they will reach far and even become a role model band to upcoming bands!

I want to know why people who call themselves christians cant stay out of wordly things. One guy in this band is on the worship team in a christian church. Tell me why you have to do worship on a Sunday morning and be involved in wordly things in the week? As far as i read this band is involved in carnival activities and wordly festivals. Christians need to get their priority straight. if you are serving God serve him. if you are in the world stay there. I would think his parents would give him better counsel or maybe not.

Shut up hypocrite! I am a christian and I hate when other Christians make comments like that as if we better than other people in the world. We should strive to uplift and edify the saints of God because we are all struggling against our flesh #check out your flaws and pray for the brother. He might get to heaven before you.#

I read the press release and it looks to me like this could be a good band. I love young people and commend them for developing and putting forth their obvious talents.

The problem with a born again Christian being in the band would be mainly the fact that they perform in establishments where alcohol is served,
and for worldly gatherings where Christ is not honored.

Years ago a physician who was an elder in his church and also preached in evangelistic services said to me “There are two kinds of Christians. There are those who are satisfied just to be saved so they will go to heaven. Then there are those who want to please God in all things and they want Jesus to be the Lord of their lives.”
Every young Christian today must make this very personal decision which of these he or she will be.

What will you do with Jesus? Will you let Him be Him Lord of your life?

For those who truly want to please God and want Jesus to be the Lord of their lives I ask you to prayerfully consider these scriptures that speak about the separated walk of the believer.

        Romans 13:11-14, 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, Ephesians 5:1-12, 1 John 2: 15-17.

There are places a Christian should not go. Christians should not go where Christ Himself is not welcome and the will of God is not honored.
They should not be found where the commandments of God are violated, and ungodliness is celebrated.

A good question to ask yourself is “Would Jesus come here? Would He be comfortable here?”

Dedicated born again young people who are willing to surrender their talents wholly to the Lord should be encouraged to form Christian singing groups of various kinds that will present the gospel in music and song. God has a special place for music in His work. It can get into places no other type of ministry can reach, and it touches hearts that will not respond to anything else. Let them boldly come together and go forth! They can minister in churches, at church camps and conventions, in school auditoriums, halls, in prisons, in parks, and on street corners!

Sanctified Christian people (young and old! are welcome to play and sing in my crusade services anytime if they sing hymns and songs that exalt Christ as our Savior, and coming King!

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

The ignorance that spews out of some of your mouths is so remarkable. It is the same bible (MATTHEW 25: 14-30) that speaks of taking your talents and multiplying them. The same bible says it is a sin to do nothing with your God-given talent… but some foolish Christian will come on DNO and restrict a man to a few hours on a Sunday in a church choir. I mean, do you all even read the WHOLE BIBLE? Or just the parts your pastor instructs you to? Foolish…

Honestly, there’s no ‘WOW factor in the band. The music industry is tough. trust me when I say its nothing personal.Though u guys may be great for some cocktail music, I just don’t see u all making it big time with the mediocre performances. I want to know that after I have been to a Ti orkest “jam/Concert” i remember that there was this special something that occured or even this special someone i can remember. For example, Elisha benoit may be remember for his eccentric style and great looking back-up vocals, Carlyn for her party pumping voice, colton for his jamaican style and even that new girl in cross vibes for her powerful voice and beautiful show stopping presence. Ti orkest should work on a trademark. I want to see that extra something that is lacking right now.

The only thing mediocre here is your review. Your obvoiuos ignorance of the true essence of music by comparing ti orkest to carlyn Xavier who only has a nice body going for her, And colton t’s perpetual nasality and the only proper person you may have tried to compare them with is elisha benoit. This band is the true essence and meaning of a family bond band. And adding insult to injury you had the audacity to say ‘jam’ when referring to ti orkest. They are a band and they have gigs and performances, a jam is a preserve made from whole fruit boiled to a pulp with sugar, not a performance. Go back do your homework then you can come back and even dare to come and speak to me about mediocrity and not seeing the ‘WOW factor’ try listening to good music for once in a while, instead of bombarding your mind with the juvenile perpetualistic form of music we call our own bouyon. And try listening to some tantalizing and rejuvenating music from the (littke ochestra) ‘ TI ORKEST’.

@ Magda….Why are you so negative? just support the band instead of comparing them to others. What, the band will not get better or get the WOW factor u looking for? Stop acting like a FOOL and support local. Ti orkest keep doing allu thing.

Whether or not the singer’s style is suited for the genre of music, what do you expect her to do? Not sing? I love this band! I love their style and their vybe. And another note, there is nothing indecent about shorts, its not excessively short or revealing. Some of yall need to chill! Smh

    • November 12, 2013

Nothing is wrong with her shorts, I agree. Some performers go on stage naked. She is singing, not selling.

  20. Niko
    November 12, 2013

Not a bad group although I find that Melinda’s style of singing is not suited for all genres especially bouyon and soca music. Her singing can be a little too nasal I find (just my opinion)but I like the band and wish them well.

    • November 12, 2013

I have not heard their music, but if you say her singing is a “little too nasal” I think she should open up her vocal passage to allow the music to go out freely. She will get better, hopefully. She probably need some voice lessons.

Quote…”The band does not indulge in obscenity and indecent language or lyrical content, and reflects dignity and pride in its appearance and disposition.”….that’s cool, so tell the singer to not wear shorts again (when performing) like the picture shows….just an observation…don’t take it negative….I checked your CITP performance and was impressed.
