UK imposes visa restrictions on Dominica due to CBI concerns

Nationals from Dominica who intend to travel to the United Kingdom (UK) must now apply for a visa due to changes in that country’s immigration regime. The British Home Office said this week that it was done due to concerns over the island’s (and another country, Vanuata) Citizenship by Investment Program (CBI).

“Careful consideration of Dominica’s and Vanuatu’s operation of a citizenship by investment scheme has shown clear and evident abuse of the scheme, including the granting of citizenship to individuals known to pose a risk to the UK,” Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, said in a statement to the British parliament.

The new visa regime takes effect today, July 19.

“We are today imposing a visa requirement on all visitors from Dominica, Honduras, Namibia, Timor-Leste, and Vanuatu.”

Braverman said, “Nationals of these countries will also be required to obtain a Direct Airside Transit Visa if they intend to transit via the UK having booked travel to another country.”

She said arrangements are being made so that travellers from Dominica, and other countries affected, can apply for UK visas.

“We are also publicising the changes so travellers are aware and can plan accordingly,” she said.

“There will be a four-week, visa-free transition period for those who hold confirmed bookings to the UK made on or before 1500 BST 19 July 2023 where arrival in the UK is no later than 16 August 2023. We have arrangements in hand to provide visas for diplomats from these countries currently working at the embassy in London.”

She made it clear the new visa regime is not a sign of poor relations between the UK and the affected countries.
“The decision to impose these visa requirements has been taken solely for migration and border security reasons and is not a sign of poor relations with these countries,” Braverman said.

“Any decision to change a visa regime is not taken lightly and we keep our border and immigration system under regular review to ensure it continues to work in the UK national interest.”

She said the regime was imposed on Honduras and Namibia because of  “a sustained and significant increase in the number of UK asylum applications being made by these nationals.”

“As such, Namibians and Hondurans rank first amongst non-visa nationals for asylum claims,” the Home Secretary said.

“These high numbers are unsustainable, contributing significantly to operational pressures which have resulted in frontline resource being diverted from other operational priorities.”

None of this is skerrits fault. We all knew it would happen at some time but we all talk complain how criminals buying citizenship yet we all make recommendations what to do with the money. Dominicans yet to understand gov of the people for the people and by the people because they are accepting to live and work under a government of one man, by one man, for one Man. Few gain immense wealth from CBI and they are foreigners, a number of leaches in dominica siphon the rest and the majority of dominicans fall in line in hopes of getting some crumbs that fall thier way. The power to select representation in the legislature has been hijacked, the gov institutions corrupted and the CBI program is ran like a cartel. The CBI cartel with a double toung crook by name of Roosevelt skerrit who has some how manipulate the people’s law enforcement agency to be his personal guards. Unless there is Peaceful mass civil strike then dominica will take what it allows.

Sad to see that this CBI fiasco has caused Dominica to become a by-word in the international community.

Besides the inevitable undue burden and hardship that will certainly inconvenience Dominican travelers, this governmental cluster “fuch” is bound to result in a detestable stain and stench that Nigerians are still fighting hard to dispell.

It is absolutely fair for one to ask the current administration: What progress? For whom? and at what cost???

To hell with the UK. We love our PM. The West is falling. The East is rising. We still have China and Russia and they provide visa free entry for Dominican citizens. So when one door closes, another open. Thank you to our lovely PM we getting housing all over Dominica, our China Friendship Hospital, our roads and highways are built, our international airport is being built. Soon we will have seaports, more hotels, and factories. They vex because Dominica not depending on them. They vex because our foot in oil. They vex because we love our PM. Tell these hungry English men to will and come again. And we have our queen Baroness Scotland, head of the Commonwealth who will speak on our behalf to King Charles who is a friend of our PM so soon the ban on us Dominican will be lifted. Our PM has links you know…

Dominica has incurred the ire of the UK government because of a combination of incompetence, avarice and corruption.

We have seen videos from the Middle East where Dominican passports were being sold on the streets like vendors selling their wares. There were no concerns to due diligence.

As long as the Dominican people allow Roosevelt and his sycophants to occupy the helm of government, ‘crapaud smoke yuh pipe!’

Most things StarBoy touches change to coal dust. This man is the greatest existential threat to Dominica.

Finally, Roosevelt has a mandatory obligation to address the Dominicans on this burning issue. But, knowing him, he will try to keep low and hope it dissipates in thin air.

The Torries are on their way out in the UK and are desperate to convince their right wing supporters to give them another chance to govern, after twelve years of inept governance. That same Suella Braverman, of Asian descended, is the same person under fire for her policy of trying to deport immigrants of colour to Rwanda in Africa, while at the same time welcoming Ukrainians and other East European with open arms. She was sacked previously for her ineptitude and corruption but brought back in government by Rishi Sunak as a favour for her support in his bid to become the next inept Torrie PM. No one in the UK cares about Suella and are eager to see the back of these corrupt Torries.

Really! Silly comments that have no relevance to the topic at hand. For Dominica to find itself in this unenviable position is inexcusable. Trying to cast aspersions on the government of the UK for safeguarding its citizens from nefarious characters is simply preposterous.

You should be given Roosevelt and his disciples a severe tongue lashing for making life even more difficult for Dominicans, and further tarnishing the image of the country. It’s not a good feeling to be the laughing stock of the world.

I put the blame for these frequent embarrassments of the country squarely at the feet of the Dominican people. Dominicans’ indifference is the best breeding ground for this continued corruption to grow.

The emergency visa restrictions on Dominicans wishing to travel to the UK should not only be of great concern to all Dominicans, but the people should also be demanding answers from the dictatorship lead by Skerrit. But then again governments are accountable to the people, dictatorships aren’t and as always, the people will be bullied into silent suffering. Anyone who dare question the integrity of the CBI passport selling program will be labeled as promoters of our dirty laundry and destroyers of Dominica.
Never do the apologist blame those who for personal benefits are recklessly selling our passports to unscrupulous characters all over the world. It is because of Dominica’s reckless and highly ill-reputed CBI program that the British government was forced to take emergency action. Mark my words, other countries will be following and ultimately it’s the citizens of Dominica that will pay the price. Skerrit & Co. will continue to travel on diplomatic passports!

The whingers among you should be ashamed of yourselves. Dominica has no industry, the island is just full of proud, delusional wannabees. Without the CBI program, Dominica would be flat broke as it always was before Skerro started selling its passports. Passports are the new Bitcoin for countries like Dominica. The only difference between them and Bitcoin is that their price can only go up. Well done Skerro! Think of it: 100 passports sold in a day even at a measly $50,000 a shot = $USD1.8 billion per annum. Skerro is selling a lot more which is why civil servants are being paid and Dominica is not looking like a war zone any more. So he keeps most of that for him and his mates, not a big deal really, no representation without taxation! :).

Traveling to the UK visa free is somewhat disheartening no doubt, but this pales in comparison to what the restriction will mean for the hot bread passport sales. Note a considerable decline in demand of this once hot comodity is on the horizon. Capital projects underway in DA will suffer, as well as the Yes we Care, NEP, Int’l Airport etc. and even…dare I say; the Public Sector Salaries. Our government and people have become overly dependent on the CBI, which drove them to be most reckless. The true cost will be felt in all corners of the already ailing Dominican Economy.

Remember he once said that entering Dominica through the back door was not new and was no big deal, despite the criminal activity associated with illegal entry into the country. His version of CBI, which is mainly focused on selling passports in countries associated with terrorists and criminals, to include him appointing some of those criminals as ambassadors for Dominica, is yielding it’s fruits. He and his stinking rich pals, off of selling our birthright, aren’t the ones who will have to endure the pain of this new headache to travel to Britain, but it’s the common folks who will feel it. CCS, It’s no worst than when Edison James, and his incompetent government was destroying Dominica, even Ugly Lenny, was able to buy his house cash ask him where the money came from, and listen to his am am am without an answer to the question.

Or when PJ and the DLP was trying to sell the country to communists and KKK members? You forgot about that one? to the point that the mural painted on the side of the treasury was removed because it reminded all of us of what the DLP did in its early days? the reason why for half my life DLP would and could only win portsmouth and grandbay for 25 years? well.. tables do turn. And they will keep on turning. everything is a cycle. Your time may be over sooner than you expect. So keep crying about the 4.5 years edison james was PM. And not open your eyes about the almost 25 years Skerrit has been fleecing the country. But i know, It is YOUR eyes and you will see what you want to see. But just because you dont want to see it, that doesnt mean its not there as a fact. your ignorance will not be your saving grace.

If we knew better, The answer to your Question is no I have not forgotten Patrick John, and his crap and I was not a supporter of his anyway, the fact that you guys as expected jumping on the bandwagon without understanding why the UK imposes visa restrictions on Dominica, and others even some Europeans it’s about securities ,Spain has put some restrictions on UK holiday makers no big deal they follow the rules and move on. Dominica is a different kettle of fish, rubbish talking parrots politics lies and criminals on Q95 radio asking their trouble makers out on the street to create mayhem and the Government is doing nothing about it, why cant we take the war to the b*****Ds.

Don’t expect them to have an epiphany. These addicts are perpetually intoxicated with the Fool-Aid they have consumed directly from the mouth of the serial LIAR.

From 2024 US citizens will have to apply visa to enter the UK. I guess it is Skeritt that cause that.

If you know anything about the UK MP Suella Braverman, she is NOT joking and is unrelenting especially when it comes to the UK border control. It will take a lot to get this decision overturned. What a blow for Dominican citizens, who are being penalised through no fault of their own.

Dominicans like it so. They continue to defend and support the most corrupt ruler in the Caribbean probably in the entire world.

He keeps his well choreographed ‘press conferences’, plaster them on YouTube, and fool the simpletons and unsuspecting. However, he cannot deceive the UK government. They have the goods on him.

I do not agree. A lot of Dominicans are penalised by condoning the actions of their leader, a known law breaker and liar.

How many Dominicans travel to England?

      • Malatete
        July 20, 2023

Dominicans travelling to the U.K. from Dominica are relatively few. Most arrivals with a Dominican passport in the U.K. would come from Dubai. In particular Indian, Pakistani but also Russian and Iranian citizens. The last two groups alone number abt. 1 million at the latest estimate. Dubai very rarely grants its citizenship to foreigners but gives residency status instead. There are at least 8 daily non-stop flight between Dubai and London (duration less than 8 hrs.) It are these people that will be most handicapped by the new visa restriction if they hold a Dominican passport and will not now be too pleased with an expensive document of little value.

It’s not “No fault of their own” the people decided on their leader, the decisions the Kader makes is the responsibility of the people to say enough is enough, so far the people have been quiet. That little demonstration they keep doing where less then 1% of the population turns out for it while 100% of the people feel for it will never make this government take us seriously. This is just the beginning. Soon it will be passport denied from all 1st world countries. The world is moving forward and if we the people don’t secure our democracy we will be lower than a 3rd world country. All it will take is a terrorist to be caught with one of our passports doing some attack on the United States or England and the world will turn it’s back on us like they did Cuba. Wake up Dominica, the clock is ticking away at our future… labour ka twava 🤣🤣🤣
