A new bakery opens for operation in Crayfish River, Salybia, and is hoping to be competitive in the market by producing bread of a higher quality than what is being served by other bakers. This bakery called “Vanz Bakery” came about as a result of a loan through the Kalinago Development Fund (KDF) which was introduced in March 2022 to the Kalinago people by the Government of Dominica. This fund stands as a financial body, administered by the AID Bank, which would be responsible for providing access to loans for development in the Kalinago space. As most people already know, it is extremely difficult for any Kalinago to qualify for a loan from any financial Institution because of the lack of collateral.
That in-it-self retards development while other communities throughout Dominica can advance in Development in
education, housing, agriculture, and manufacturing because of land security. This is precisely why the Kalinago Development Fund was initiated so that entrepreneurship can blossom and poverty can be lessened to a certain degree.
The owner of Vanz Bakery had a vision to start his own business and decided to take advantage of the Kalinago Fund. Having been successful in securing the loan, the business started with two employees. His dream was to be competitive in a market that was already booming with the sale of bread from bakers all over the country. For some unknown reason, a number of bread vendors would come to the Territory to do business. At this point many conscious-minded Kalinagos are now asking the question, are these vendors helping to sponsor any projects in the Kalinag Space? Are they coming to “sell their bread, and leaving the Territory with hundreds of dollars and would never look back to help any cause” said a villager.
Vanz Bakery is aware of the challenges for small business initiatives, and that is limited budget and resources. However, the “bakery business can be considered recession-proof” because people need to eat and bread will always sell on the market. Vanz Bakery will produce different flavored breads such as cassava, pumpkin, and others. In the future, pastries will be added to its products.
The manager of Vanz Bakery is thankful to the Kalinago leaders who have fought and negotiated for the realization of this Development Fund and to the Prime Minister and Government of Dominica for its approval.

Thats just the begining of good things to come, Jah bless my people.
THAT,is a visionary government, hence the reason DLP cannot lose an election in the near future.
Best of luck to Vanz Bakery! This is a small, though welcome and needed, initiative.
Good stuff. i love to hear that.
More proof of a government that is focused on people development, using CBI money. Layba ka twavay!!
Best wishes, Vanz. (Next time you pose for a photo in your bakery, wear proper gear. No head covering and these open shoes look unhygienic.)
Head covering? he have no hair 😂
“At this point many conscious-minded Kalinagos are now asking the question, are these vendors helping to sponsor any projects in the Kalinag Space?”
wtf is the Kalinag Space? we coming like america now with all these “spaces” which is basically segregation to promote more racial division. We don’t need these type of nonsensical ideologies in such a small country where we barely struggling to make ends meet
Stupidness. I am happy for this part of the country. For awhile nothing was happening there but CRAFTS..for real. Let the country GROW and get jobs to our youth…..They are the originals….Best of luck on your bakery sir.
Stupes does not even know where it stand.Young people.Young people run things in Dominica.Go investigate,do some investigation.Police force, young people.Nursing service young people.Teaching service young people.Fire service young people.Small business young people. Most public service vehicle drivers are young drivers. In Dominica there are 39,000 registered vehicles, most are owned by young people. In Dominica one retires at 60,unlike the US from work to a nursing home.
Lol! Well, “for awhile” this Kalinago Fund has been in operation and many have been using the money to improve their lives. “For awhile” now, houses are being built there for the Kalinago and taxpayers are still working on improving their roads. “For awhile” we have been hearing in the media about Ministry of Tourism improving the tourism product and services in the Territory.
I suspect if you move from your echo chamber you will hear a lot of the good things that are happening in the Territory and other parts of Dominica, eno. Try dat!
Well that’s good sign. I never understand why they force people to retire at 60 even the Nurses. I have a brother in law with the Gov’t for decades and they forced him off the job. So if there are so many opportunities for the youth why 99% of crime committed are done by them?
