Sporting tournaments, 4-H Club Schools Festival, and an arts & crafts exhibition are some of the activities students should look forward to as they return to school to begin the second term.
This was according to Education Minister Octavia Alfred.
“The Ministry of Education welcomes all students, teachers, and principals back to school for term two,” she said. “We need to encourage everyone to continue to do your best and we thank you for your effort.”
She continued, “This year schools will be involved in sporting tournaments such as volleyball, under 20 cricket, under 12 netball and the women’s and girls’ sports festival.”
Alfred said that the National 4-H Club Arts & Craft Exhibition will be held on January 27.
“January is also observed as Health and Family Life Education month and we encourage schools to focus on activities that will assist students in developing healthy self-management habits,” she encouraged.
She also announced that the National 4-H Green Days are on February 2, and 3.
“February will also be a month where students will focus on costume building, mask making, performing arts, dance, music, and chorale speech,” Alfred revealed.
She continued, “March will be Literacy Month and we will observe literacy in not just the English language but also in French and Creole.”
Furthermore, she stated that the 4-H Club School Festival will be held during the week of March 20 and 24, and schools will close on April 5.
Meantime, Alfred encouraged students, parents, and teachers to practice proper hand hygiene.
“As we return to school we notice that a number of students have the flu,” she remarked. “We encourage students, parents, and teachers to continue to wash your hands regularly, to use hand sanitizers when necessary.”
She further encouraged schools to clean regularly touched surfaces, “and I want to say that it is ok to wear a mask even though we do not have a mask mandate.”
“If you are coughing it is ok to wear a mask and if you are a person who catches the cold easily you can wear a mask while you go out in public,” Alfred said.
She also reminds parents to keep students home if they have flu-like symptoms.
“When you do so contact the school…,” she said.

Under the present tenure of the worst Education Minister in the history of local governance in Dominica, the opening of a new school year brings the usual glorious promises and superlative initiatives. The biggest problem though there is a huge deficit of implementation.
Every ministry, department, sector and entity of government is underperforming, malfunctioning or unreliable – education and sports departments, health and economy sectors, justice system, et al.
This concoction of miscreants, thugs, crooks, sluggards and nincompoops does not have the prerequisites to lead a successful country. It’s scary to acknowledge that very perilous air pockets are ahead in 2023 and a group of amateurish imbeciles is piloting the plane..
Wow, Madame Pampalam has spoken and once again tried to justify her existence by stating the obvious. So much for Skerrits Reset…
