Founder of Creole HeartBeat Leroy ‘Wadix’ Charles has made a special appeal to the authorities to create a place where members of the Midnight Groovers can educate the youth to get them more involved in Cadence Lypso music.
His comments came during the unveiling of a Billboard, a tribute to Midnight Groovers in Grandbay this week.
This formed part of the Cadence Lypso Golden Jubilee celebrations. This was spearheaded by the Sign Man and Creole HeartBeat in collaboration with the Parliamentary representative of the Grandbay Constituency, and the Grandbay village council.
“I would like the authorities to create some place where these brothers can teach the children to play their kind of music,” Charles said. “You see the type of music they play, give them a budget, we have some place in South City we can do that. So we do not have to go to town.”
He continued, “Create an avenue while we are blessed to have the brothers alive with us. I call them our living legends….and we are fortunate to have them in our midst.”
Charles added, “Let us continue to honour them and one of the best ways I think we can do that is to allow them to teach the children.”
According to him, the Midnight Groovers have contributed a lot to Grandbay and Dominica by extension. Furthermore, said Charles, this is being done from the finances from their pockets, because he understands the blood and sweat of Phillip ‘Chubby’ Mark and Marcel Komak of the Midnight Groovers.
“Chubby started as a Calysonian, what better or [more] fitting day to do this, today is also Calypso Day,” he stated. Meantime, Chubby argued that the type of music being played these days is not appropriate to be played around children.
“Music is a sweet thing, but it has to have positive vibes, positive words for people to over-stand what’s happening,” he remarked.
He believes that nowadays the system has no love since people are looking for money.
“We are living in a crucial system,” Chubby noted. “We are living in a system that has no love…all people are looking for is money”
He continued, “Everybody behind the money, but money is not all.”
Chubby believes that people should focus on the Almighty Father.
“Let us give praise to the Father, love one another,” he encouraged. “If you want to play music you have to remember God.”
Chubby called for more love and unity to build up Dominica. He also thanked ‘Wadix’ for pushing the Cadence Lypso music.
“More young people are into the bouyon music instead of Cadence Lypso music,” Chubby said. “And listening to the bouyon music, that is just a shame. Because we need to be clean.”
He added, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.”

Wadix losing his marbles man? i fine is nonsense alone he talking them times. what authorities he appealing to? Skerrit? Denise Charles? Piper? Midnight Groovers alone that can pass on their musical legacy. IDK what authorities he talking about.
These guys need two huge bronze sculptures of them set up in grand bay. They have a unique guitar rift that is only found in thier style. A Lil bit of the African soukous a touch of Bellaire and a dominica flavor. Cannot get anywhere else in world and totally agree with passing on that skill.
