ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Academy players will assemble in Antigua from Monday, 9 October for a High Performance camp ahead of their participation in the upcoming CG United Super50 Cup.
The 14 players will be under the guidance of Head Coach Andre Coley and Assistant Coach Rayon Griffith during the week-long camp at the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG). Following the camp, they will travel to Trinidad to participate in the eight-team CG United Super50 Cup. Nyeem Young, the batting allrounder has been named captain.
Coley said: “We are really looking forward to competing in this year’s edition of the CG United Super50 Cup. The camp provides an excellent opportunity for us to prepare and focus on our white ball skills and certain match scenarios, as we build on the performances of the previous tournament and explore ways to execute the brand of cricket that we want to play as a West Indian team.”
The region’s premier List A 50-over tournament will bowl off on Tuesday 17 October and conclude on Saturday 11 November with a new eight-team league format followed by Semi-Finals and Finals to determine the 2023 CG United Super50 Cup Champions. Do they play cricket in Dominica ? if they do where do they play . I came home and watch the test match West Indies VS India and was very disappointed no light in the stadium no young kids in white around the park, no school boys and girls also .
The world today young girls play great cricket what a shame , In dominica today as we speak the only thing you hear about is sewo , where as in other countrys you have hundreds of young boys and girls learning how to play sports, could be cricket , football , track and other disciplines you have a bunch of no good for nothing wasting the country resources and doing for sports.
A concern citizen
Winning is the ONLY thing that matters. I feel sorry for sports fans in Dominica including myself. During the morning news on DBS radio more time is allotted to sports happenings than other news ( which lacks contextual input). Sadly it’s always bad news that the Dominican team lost again. To add insult to injury the manager and or captain issues more ridiculous happy talk about the Sorry performance trying to put a positive spin on the disgraceful performance time and time again. It’s true that natural ability alone isn’t sufficient for great performances, and a winning habit needs a mental muscle memory to deliver the winning. Therefore there is need to have more psychologists on the teams, not as part time but full time coaches to coach the winning mentality that winning is the ONLY thing that matters. These days there is a faux emphasis on statistics but that doesn’t deliver wins. Winning is the ONLY thing that matters. Unless they win then “forgetaboutit”!!.
Every single sporting activity has taken a SERIOUS nose dive in Dominica…We once dominated in many sports in the Windward Islands, especially cricket…This too has vanished in the wind. It’s depressing, disappointing and shameful when one considers how we had a plethora of sportsmen way up to the 1980’s and even in the 1990’s. Not now. Starboy of Stupidity love the young men so much, that he has given them the legal right to have their small portion to smoke their lives away.
Man !!!!!!! i support you a thousand % if there is such a thing . I am a former cricketer, Dominica Youth, Dominica senior and Windward Island team player what i see in dominica is a bunch of jokers.
There is no first division cricket in dominica again where you have to go and compete and gain a pick on the team ,what they have is a T20 league that make no sence these guys cannot build an inning so what you expect , they must lose every game they play ,these guys dont take the sport seriously.
In my time we dominated windward island cricket for decades, today we a nothing when it come to the sport .
We use to have eight players and some time three reserve on the windward island team , and on the combine Island team six such players and in dominica right now is pick games these guys playing .
