APP’s statement on recent rise in COVID-19 cases in Dominica

Interim president of the Alternative People’s Party, Tahira Blanchard. Photo taken from APP website

Let us all do our part to stop the local transmission of COVID-19 in Dominica.

The Alternative Peoples’ Party (APP) is calling on all residents of the Commonwealth of Dominica to cooperate with the authorities in their efforts to manage the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The most recent Government of Dominica report on the COVID-19 cases present the cause for much concern. It was announced that 42 out of the 45 positive cases were local and three imported. What makes this recent disclosure more alarming is that the last cluster of positive cases arose from local transmission, and this suggests that there could be several other undiscovered cases.

Let us all, therefore, play a leading role in preventing community spread and take this development seriously.

Our party is therefore appealing to the public to heed the advice of the health authorities; practice good hygiene – wash hands regularly with soap and water; use facial masks as much as possible; get tested for COVID-19 if you believe that you have been exposed; keep safe physical distance from others; get vaccinated, as it is scientifically proven that the COVID-19 vaccine greatly minimizes the effect of the virus; protect each other, especially the elderly and those whom immune system have been challenged or compromised.

We strongly suggest that the citizens of our blessed land partner with the government in this effort, because we are all in this together. It is our wish, as well, that the government see the people as partners in the effort and treat us as such. It is important to note that a COVID-19- Free Dominica is our collective responsibility and a non-partisan duty.

Sincerely,

Tahira Blanchard Party Leader

Ms. Blanchard ( President of APP) a little unsolicited advice to you. This has nothing to do with the covid-19.

Change that photo if you want me and hopefully others to take you and your political party serious. Display a more professional photo. Politics is not a beauty contest. Why should I invest my emotion, and energy in your political party when your deputy leader is barely an adult one who has not even enter the workplace as yet. No job experience just a blank slate. Come on.

Skerrit does not have the virus.Like me he has taken doses of the vaccine.Skerrit ordered thousands of doses of the vaccine,he begged Dominicans to take the vaccine.UWP,IBO,%,VIEWS went on a campaign and told Dominicans DO NOT TAKE THE VACCINE.Recently Skerrit begged Dominicans again to take the vaccine,he even promised those who did not have the time to eat, a lunch of KFC.UWP,IBO,%,VIEWS went on another campaign and told Dominicans SKERRIT was buying them with food(KFC).Today both UWP and DLP are paying the price.Today those UWP JACKA are looking for a SCAPEGOAT,they thought UWP was immune

Nice hypocrite words if you ask me. I need you to join John on the CCM show on Q95 and tell us exactly where you stand.

Why not call on your supporters to get ready for the upcoming BIG day when the drums, tambourine, boubou, shakshak and other instruments will hit the streets. Enough of you aspiring politicians who refuse to get your hands dirty but expect to be at the top of the table to share the spoils after its been realized. SMMFH

Eeeeh, who is this woman and where did she pop up from? Of course what she said makes sense and it’s what we all know, what the world health organisation has been saying, but seriously it sounds to me like she just land on Dominica and trying to use the health pandemic to make political mileage. Where has the APP been while we been sucking salt for sugar? Guessing that whole party made up of a bunch of diaspora who live their happy profitable life somewhere else and come here to get position. Thaaaaanks for your very obvious comments but madame chupes and go back where you just came from and let the people who have been here and know the island decide our future. How can APP be the solution when you don’t even know what the problems are?

What the good lady has said a twelve year old could have done it. She brought nothing new or enlightening to the table.

She said nothing about the super spreader events allegedly organized by those with political clot before these new cases. She did not have an opinion on Skerit’s violations of the covid-19 protocols after returning home from Venezuela. But happy to capitalize on this big issue for political gain.

Stop the habit of crawling out from under your rock only when the issue generates widespread publicity.

Tahira Blanchard, it’s good to see that your party is finally saying something about Covid-19 which has been bedeviling us for over a year. Where have you been? Your advice is a repeat of what others have been calling for all along. However, when Skerritt broke protocols and on his return from Venezuela attended a funeral against the Covid-19 rules of engagement, what do you think the message is to the citizens? You didn’t even proffer any compelling scientific rational to help those who are hesitant to go get the vaccine, so your kindergarten exhortation doesn’t do much to move the needle on vaccine hesitancy which is the real bottleneck in fighting this pandemic. When the president advocates for forcing citizens to be given the vaccine against their will what does your party have to add to the discussion and what’s your party’s position on mandatory vaccination? If you are joining the discussion on Covid-19 let it be persuasive and have deep thought behind it.

I dont know if i heard a statement from you on the Choksi matter either…If you did, it escaped me!!!
This was/ is a matter that smeared the good name of both Dominica and Antigua.
As a budding politician, i dont think that you should just cower into a corner on those matters of national importance, which portrays Dominica as a pariah state, and then come talking Covid and not even condemning those who set laws and are violating the very laws that they enact..Example Skerrit after leaving Venezuela, attending a funeral the next day, they going to parliament to talk jibberish. The event at Bellevue Chopin was another one…What are you afraid of??? Politicians, man or woman have to be forceful..
    YOU ARE NOT!!!

This is a powerful message my sister. I have always supported the new party, and
I was even called out for chasing everyone and anyone who did not feel APP is a good idea, because I believe that fresh and new blood is good for change.

But please, this is not a talent show or a queen show, it is serious business. Please present a more politically powerful picture than the ‘talent show appearance’ one that have had been presented in this forum.

If you are not sure about presentation, just google “powerful women in politics ” like I did. You will be presented with many pictures of women in politics, and you will see how they powerfully present themselves to media.

Your long hibernation suggests to me that you have already lacked the capacity to deal with national matters.
The single greatest piece of atrocity in Dominica occurred in our parliament last week. If you cannot address it, well why do you even think to come here trying to talk about Covid to me???
Dont you think that you, as a young person, vying for political office, needs to be balance and level headed???? You are not, and that i can tell you is already a terrible beginning to your political career.

Thank you. Hope you are a real alternative to looking at every single thing through blue or red specs. Politicians need to be real with people of all colors, always in a respectful way. A truly powerful leader is the one who is able to transmit a vision for the country – helping people to see what is possible, what is necessary and what is wrong-headed – without giving up OR resorting to coercion. Where there is no vision the people perish.

Madame what you just said is the right way to go and, I commend you on that. In order to stop the spread of the deadly disease, people need to follow protocol and do what is right and necessary. When you follow tramps like %, we will certainly get know and defeat the purpose. We all need to play our part, act responsibly in order to make the world a better place and safer place to live in.

Did you condemn what happened in our parliament?????
Please don’t tell me about Covid, if you are not condemning the actions of those leaders who are the ones largely responsible for spreading it…
I am tired of you all HYPOCRISY!!!

% i think politics has clogged your mind in fact your whole being, am actually feeling sorry for you because while we move up you will still be down…. the only thing we have to condemn in parliament is the unruly, uncivilized, arrogant and ignorant actions of the 7 members of the opposition!!!! I STAND TO CONDEMN THEIR ACTION!!!!!

Great job APP this is a health issue and your party will need a healthy nation to win an election!!!!

I am still awaiting a statement from the UWP leader of the parliamentary opposition … % how long should we the people wait????

Joe a scatterbrain like you should feel sorry for yourself and not me. Can you tell me how to comment??? NO!!!
Your imbicilic and asinine garbage shows that you lack the capacity to contribute to what you read, and you are jittery and anathema with truthfulness. You are coming out here as a tabula rasa, brazen and shameless, because you lack the capacity to digest the truth.
