Reports reaching Dominica News Online confirm that Cletus Abraham, widely known as Halibut, has died. Abraham was the lead singer of the cadence-lypso band Belles Combo, which gained prominence in the 1970s. He was best known for the hit song “Pawa Bol.”
Born in Mahaut, Abraham contributed to Dominica’s musical landscape through three albums and two hit 45s with Belles Combo. After a long break from performing, he returned to the stage and won the NCCU Cadence-lypso Competition in 2011 with “Pawa Bol,” repeating the feat in 2013.
He was listed on the lineup for the 2025 World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), where “Pawa Bol” featured in his performance.
Dominica News Online extends condolences to his family, friends, and the wider musical community.
Dominica had an abundance of cadence bands in the 70’s /80’s since the advent of EXILE ONE. But my favourite was always Belles Combo, mainly due to their very mellow vocals and tempo. RIP Hali. You may be gone but lour lovely vocals will live on. You have made your contribution.
He was one of my best friends.Rest in peace Harley.
Sleep peacefully for eternity Halibut!

Hope the state see it fit to afford you a State Funeral like Jeff Jo. You were not perfect but you surely did your share. I know your many fans especially in St.Lucia and Martinique are grieving……I will definitely take a Lapcent at the LAB on your memory.
He was Cletus Abraham and he was a vocalist for Belles.
