UPDATE: DLP wins 5th consecutive term in government

DLP supporters celebrate

The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) led by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has won an unprecedented fifth term in general elections in Dominica.

Dominicans went to the poll on December 6, 2019, amidst weeks of protest and court battles which ended on the eve of the elections with the court of appeal upholding the decision of the high court Judge not to grant an injunction to stop the elections.

According to preliminary results of the election, the DLP won 18 of the 21 seats in the island’s parliament with the wife of the Prime Minister Melissia Skerrit comfortably winning the Roseau Central seat which has been a stronghold of the United Workers Party.

Joseph Isaac previously held that seat for the UWP but crossed the floor to the DLP and was made a government Minister, he contested the Roseau North seat for the DLP but lost.

Among the casualties for the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) is its deputy leader, attorney at law, Joshua Francis who lost his Roseau South seat to newcomer Cherika Lockhart Hypolite.

The UWP held six seats before the last general elections and the DLP 15.

Supporters of the Dominica Labour Party took to the streets in jubilation as they celebrated their party’s victory.

The election was stolen by the DLP through evil and deceptive means. Could God stop it? Yes. But He allowed it for a reason. We might not know the reason right now but eventually we will. I cant believe Dominicans voted for this demonic Skerrit. A lot of you have no idea what’s going on in the spiritual realm. Those of you who support this evil man will one day stay with alu mouths wide open. Im waiting to see what unfolds.

You are right back to exactly what made you lose the elections. I have mentioned to you all before this coarse, disrespectful behaviour pushes people away. It doesn’t attract them. Which is what you need to win an election. Attack the prime minister on the issues not these petty personal attacks.

We UWP are completely missing the points. Mr. Skerrit is a happily married man with a family.,Father, mother and children. Foresake your mother and father and stick to your wife. He is holding the top job in a country and getting a wage. We campaign on Skerrit and not on Dominica. Every adult should stand on their own two feet. Sooner or later ,you will read what my brother or sister is doing to me, what go so.If Jesus name was being mentioned like Skerrit, what love oh. Put the country first before people. It is not what the Country can do for you but, is what you can do for your country. Skerrit is an individual. Every herd has a leader. Well done to Mr. Skerrit as a leader.

To the UWP followers, you have made it from bad to worse for the past 20 years and much worse for the past 5 years.

When you say that a government who was elected and continued to be elected for 3 consecutive terms, is the work of stealing, cheating, corruption, and all bad things, you declare that God has allowed the “devil” His enemy, to have the upper hand–that is most definitely not true! It can even pass as blasphemy

God will not give the devil priority over Him, for He said He will leave out the “highty tighties” to give the crown to the “lowest”–meaning the humble one, whom He uses to display His Great Power: “for no man shall glory in His presence”.

That is what your leader wants to do, unlike PM Skerrit who knows where he came from and who put him in the position that he holds right now.

PM Skerrit did not steal the right to hold the Prime Seat at Parliament; but by the voice of the people, he earned it from God. Take that or leave it!

Elizabeth, God himself ruled over Israel, he verbally communicated, while he ruled over the Children of Israel directing all their way of life there were no problem in Israel.

So, what the Israelite  did they look around their neighbors, and saw they had rulers over them in the person of kings.

So, the Israelite told God they want a king to rule over them.

God did not argue with his people, he simply gave them what the wish, since he give  people a free will to chose; and decide what they want.

So, he let Israel have their king, but to this day Israel is in turmoil, and there will never be any peace in Israel until the return of Jesus Christ.

What I am telling  is simply this: As long as Dominicans want to be under Roosevelt dictatorship, and wish to vote for him, God will simply let them have Roosevelt, but stop being stupid believing God answer your prayer and made Roosevelt the winner.

  7. Diaspora or not
    December 8, 2019

People who are eligible have the right to come to vote. Both political parties were out in Canada, USA, UK, and all other Diaspora countries and on FB, inviting supporters to come home to vote. If people voted illegally, this should be investigated and appropriate action taken.

We cannot continue this bickering for another 5 years. It’s either the Diaspora people can vote or they cannot. If they cannot, no politician should go to them to ask them to pay their passage, cover travel expenses, leave their families and jobs for one to two days to come to vote, all on their own pocket.

The local population for the 2014 elections cannot be compared with the present local population, post Maria. No one knows the exact resident population of Dominica now.

Poor political strategies are mainly to be blamed for losses. Go forward to review and tighten electoral legislation.

The talk about Dominican overseas coming to vote let me set this straight we all over seas are contributing to the economy of the country one way or other most of us overseas have property in Dominica that is bein rented the money goes into the bank which they use to loan out to locals now we pay taxes on that property
when we visit some times twice or more times a year we spend or exchange US dollars unlike some of the locals that have nothing and walk around looking for handouts we don’t look for that we look for better that is one of the reason why most of us left Dominica and go out to work and send something home .

  8. Good luck Mr. Linton
    December 8, 2019

Mr. Linton. I supported you all throughout your campaign and I still support you now. You Sir, are an honourable man. I am reading some negative comments from the Dominicans you love so much. Negative comments about you and I feel bad. They think Skerrit is such a nice guy not realizing you are the one standing in the gap protecting them from the same Skerrit’s wickedness. I daresay, these people are not worth fighting for. Leave them to their Skerrit. Then let them fry in their oil when they see what you have been warning them about all along.

So where is the disgraced pollster (Bruney)? His forecast was for 20 UWP and 1 Labor. The elections has just exposed Bruney as a fraudulent misinformer that’s so typical of UWP operatives. The Bajan guy was a lot more accurate and more authentic than Bruney. I hope that’s the last we see of Bruney and his bogus polling. At the end of the day the majority of Dominican voters rejected Linton’s and UWP negative and violent behaviour during the campaign. We are first and foremost a peaceful people and value our democracy. UWP will have to rebrand themselves and choose a more likeable Leader than Lennox, if they are ever to govern again.

Dominicans have spoken democratically at the ballot box. Congrats to PM Skeritt! Sunday is a dedicated day of healing and the nation needs to heal. But healing is not a one day affair; it is a long-term process, not a one day project. The healing must include addressing the opposition’s reasonable call for electoral reform: identification cards, revamping voter rolls, reviewing Dominicans living overseas participation in the electoral process. DLP took 18 of 21 seats; this was a shellacking, a royal cut ass. Nonetheless, IMO loop sided governments are not as effective as those with a strong position. Where is Dominica heading?

Dominica attained its independence from the UK on 01 Nov 1981 but a friend of mine’s quipped once that if Columbus, the privateer, returns today, one of the only islands he would recognize is Dominica. The reality is that Dominica’s growth and development has stagnated in all areas relative to other regional countries. A handful of people…

    • December 8, 2019

@Disinterested, your name suits your mental condition, because your comment is baseless!

Healing takes a long time, that is true, however, you seem to have not observed or rejected the fact, that PM Skerrit and Lady Melissa has been doing their best to impute that healing into the minds of the people, by the grace of God–the blind, deaf, and no-interest ones like you did not recognize those efforts.

Think about the “thanksgiving” sessions after hurricane Maria, and remember how you all responded to them.

Your idea of Christopher Columbus is substanceless, do you know what was the condition of Roseau when Colombus found Dominica?

Ask Lennox Honeychurch, he will tell you that Roseau was named after the grass that was growing there when Colombus arrived. I say no more!

Skerrit and his roguish party spend millions and millions of dollars to ‘thief’ an election oblivious of the people’s desperate standard of living. The daily hunger pains, the cheap cholesterol ladened meals most people are compelled to consume, the deprivation of proper sporting, recreational and entertainment facilities, the inability of so many ordinary citizens to pay their utility bills due to the astronomically high unemployment and abysmally low wages and salaries, all these factors have the place in a royal mess. With no more cool out money, increased joblessness, continued corruption, Dominicans’ future prospects look dismal.

This election was fraught with impropriety, irregularities, illegitimacy and corruption. Dominica is far worse off post general election. Here are a few reasons. The economy will deteriorate although it’s at its worst. The political and social divisions will continue to widen. Public servants will not be able to survive on their present starvation salaries. Tourism will continue its downward trajectory. Corruption will go on unabated. Dominica is literally nearing a living hell.

  26. The People have spoken
    December 7, 2019

Thank God for a very democratic, peaceful and event free exercise yesterday.

Congratulations to the Prime Minister and all the candidates who were successful at the polls.

The people have spoken. It is hoped that the results will be accepted by all and the campaigning will cease so that the business of building the country can continue effectively. If there is any evidence of voter fraud, then this should be dealt with speedily.

This was a very UGLY political campaign, fought on the world stage and bringing considerable harm to the image of Dominica. It is hoped that every one would have learnt their respective lessons and we can move on in peace, and even love.

It is also hoped that all constructive criticisms and recommendations will be evaluated and considered to ensure a better Dominica 5 years from now.

Congratulations also to the Electoral Office for a well planned and executed elections process. Phenomenal job!. Take a deep bow.

Well done..well done. Now please give us owere international airport please we looking forward to it gove

    • December 8, 2019

An international airport would cost $1 billion E.C. It will never happen. The realistic solution is to focus on improving the number and frequency of connecting flights. I know, no one wants to hear that, and I’ll be downvoted into the abyss for saying it, but it’s true.

      • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
        December 9, 2019

If that is the case Steve, the $1.2 billion: ( the one billion two hundred million missing dollars which people like you don’t care about; never talk about could have built an International Airport, don’t you think?)

Guy, right now I recognized I am a Dominica born, but  I see no hope for the country, one cannot blame Roosevelt to a point, he want to be prime minister for personal profit, the ignorant people even the youths born into this corrupted system accustom to the handouts will continue to vote for Roosevelt, because they do not know what it is to work for a living.

Hence as long as Roosevelt is prime minister, and labor rules the status quo will remain the same; so what have we got?

        Nothing!

As for me; I have lost all interest in Dominica, which to me is a lost cause, and a domed nation.

        • December 9, 2019

Dods what you have and nothing is the same you lost interest in Dominica long time so don’t talk that you ant the best man of Linton that Johnson guy you all are better off staying where you all are

          • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
            December 9, 2019

If I lived in Dominica; okay, I would be as well off as I am right now; because I do know how to succeed in life.

If you put Francisco Telemaque in the poorest conner  of the world, with less than a hundred dollars in my hand, before long I would turn that less than a hundred dollars in any currency into millions!

And mind you I would do it without political help nor handouts!

I do not know how old you are, but take it from me; it matters not what Roosevelt promised Dominican’s twenty-five years from now not one single of his promises he made twenty years ago, nor the present will ever come to fruition.

I doubt Roosevelt won the election based on any promises he made; the people know he is a failure and a liar!

The situation, is Dominicans hate the leader of the opposition with a passion, wright or wrong, no matter how Lennox presents the truth; hate takes precedence, they prefer the crook!

“which people like you don’t care about”

I’d say you should back that up by citing a single instance when I ever suggested that, but you and I both know that you can’t.

And for the record, I favour complete transparency in all aspects of Dominica’s governance, especially including its finances. And I expect you do as well.

        • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
          December 10, 2019

Steve, if convinced that it will cost a billion dollars to build an International Airport on the island.

I very much doubt that; if you take Argyle Int, in St. Vincent, it cost a little over seven hundred million, and that’s because of the land form which contained mountains of granite which is a very hard material they had to cut through.

The situation in Dominica is totally different; in the first place the site where the UWP was building it more than twenty years ago when the Labor party shut it down is still there, if that site is utilize it will cost less.

Rather than utilizing that site Roosevelt is contemplating to destroy more than half the village of Wesley, even a more than two hundred year Roman Catholic Church Building in the process.

I am not contending that you do not like transparency, all I am saying is that the more intelligent ones like you should ask Skerrit to account for the missing $1.2 Billion.

The wrong decision by the UWP to contest the election under Skerritt’s terms was the fatal nail in the coffin. No surprise that they lost. It’s now more than one time that the UWP has facilitated Skerritt in defeating them at the polls. How sad that the UWP decided to play by Skerritt’s obscure rules and expected a different result. Now Skerritt will go to parliament and with his strengthened majority pass electoral reforms which will legitimize treating and bribery and the other evil schemes. Without long-range vision the people perish and the UWP will perish as well. DLP won the election but Dominica lost the glue which kept it together as a country.

Danny Lugay and Hon. Hector John, I now call upon all three of you to resign from the opposition immediately so Skerrit could get what he wanted which is No opposition. Please guys do the honorable thing and resign forthwith! Let us be a country like Barbados with no opposition so that Skerrit can do what he wants knowing that he has no one to oppose him. In like manner I call on the owner of Q95 to close down the radio station so that no one calls to oppose or cry. I also call on all the candidates of the UWP to take their families and flee the country even if they have to go to a country they never heard of. Do whatever it takes to be safe because Skerrit and his police going to come after all you. So let’s leave Skerrit country for him so it could be Red country

The spread of fake news and propaganda aided by the so called Concerned Citizen Movement and the biased reporting of DNO and so called journalist Mathias Peltier. Dominica has now gotten what she wanted; fairly or unfairly attained; the authorities in Dominica and the Caribbean support what transpired in Dominica. Population of 67,000 and voting list with 74,000 names!!

I do not believe, though, that this is the time for rejoicing. Instead, it is a time of introspection, reflecting on lessons learned and how to undo the wrongs of the past. Leading into the elections a lot of wrongs were presented using a variety of vehicles; Could the approach be culpable? Could the personnel be culpable? Could the vacuous statements and unfounded promises be responsible?

Our failure to actively analyze what is happening around us and thereby effectively inform the way forward has been our major shortcoming. I know UWP spoke of term limits, they need to review that policy as it applies to contesting elections at the helm of the party. They need to learn from the labour party who introduced a slate of political neophytes and yet increased their majority.

Congratulations to Prime Minister Skerrit and the DLP. Well done!! Lennox Linton and the UWP made sure the World was watching Dominica’s Elections. Linton actually made sure the World watched him got humiliated by the Dominican people. This is an embarrassing loss. I hope Linton accepts defeat gracefully and move on. The UWP needs new leadership and new strategies if they want to win or they will remain in opposition permanently. You now have a weaker opposition than you had before. Linton has to go. Destroying your Country, for selfish political gain will never work. I am so glad the World was watching, while you got destroyed by the Dominican people. Congrats again to Skerrit and the DLP. Elizabeth Xavier before you say God made Roosevelt win election, let me tell you the devil made him win!
So, our ignorant people have to deal with five more years of poverty, and hardship.
As someone in Antigua told me tonight, the free money and gifts give away cease as of today, until five years from now.

And to those of you who said Dominica’s election is fair; I ask how can that be when in Antigua as an example Roosevelt bought tickets for people go home to vote.
Some of them all they got is the free ticket, the Roosevelt puppets in Antigua wrote their names down, and told them all the have to do is go to the Airport somebody will give them a ticket, one person when they found out all they were getting was the free ride and no spending money they change their mind from going.

The politicians in power will continue stealing get richer, now husband and wife will share the Ali Baba loot!

Was it right for a preacher on national TV to live

Sir, do think abortion is right?
Do you believe it is right for a pastor to steal church money?
Is it right for a pastor caught in adultery and put on probation by his elders and instead of humbling himself and repent he decides to take half the church and start his own business ?
Don’t you think that such an action by the pastor and those that followed him into his new church was a sign that the church was getting ready to make wrong right?
Yes it is alright to meet in church on Sunday at10 but please read this passage from Psalm 37: 7, so you could explain it to me and others.
“Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.” So once one is able to bring evil to pass it’s a sign of godliness? Oh pastor pastor!! We call this spiritual…

    • December 8, 2019

@Evil can’t be right, what do those questions have to do with a general election and it results in Dominica?

When did God give you the right to judge others with the same flesh and blood as yours?

The same Solomon with 300 girlfriends, he also had 700 wives, God knew all of that.

But He blessed Solomon with the kind of wisdom that no man in this world will ever have, he made him the richest man of his days; can you add that information as well?

Mankind, including you, will always be who he is, he has no authority above him but the God who created him. Leave it to Him to pass the judgment, including your own.

So Dominica has returned its dictator to power. A man that steals the country’s wealth for his personal us. A man that hands pennies out to the peasants that are afraid to remove him as there begging ways may be effected by a real leader who wants to build the country. An iliterate electorate that does not understand buying there vote with a 300ec hand out is contrary to any democratic process and illegal in any first world situation.
A government’s job is to provide infrastructure and oppertunities with a level playing field for all, not to be buying people with there own money (less the amount stolen for there personal use). The economic slid will continue in Dominica. The opulent hotel projects built by passport money will ultimately fail after the quick cash has been sucked out by the developers and corrupt politicians. The country will continue to be viewed as a corrupt dictatorship by the developed world. But who cares, were leaving, not investing another penny in Dominica.

The reason for the UWP lost should be quite obvious. The real problem for the party is its (Leader). Lennox. UWP will never win an election again in Dominica as long as Lennox is the Leader. Lennox has destroyed his political career from the beginning. You dont win elections with gangster style political tactics. Community building would be a good start for the UWP in the future and send Lennox crapo hunting. I feel sorry for the uwp supporters because they are running after failed leader. Lennox’s arrogant approach, techincs, behavior, and his in denial to accept when he is at fault, are not attributes of a humble man and good leader. He has failed himself, his supporters and he team.

    • December 8, 2019

@Lenpro, Lennox Linton never had the traits that qualify someone for a political career. He demonstrated that fact from the very first day, all through the 5 years that he held the title of opposition leader–extremely worse for the few days prior to the general election. I am sure that he lost quite a number of votes because of those few days only. A manifestation that will live in the minds of everyone, who witnessed it, for the coming 5 years.

He will have a lot of trouble erasing that manifestation from the minds of the people–especially based on his mentality

  75. My little take
    December 6, 2019

If the Elections were fair I would be the first one to congratulate the DLp. But it was a rigged election. My only regret is that they didn’t steal all 21 seats so we there would be no one to stop Alibaba from doing what he wants. UWp was wrong to contest because they already knew Alibaba had put things in place to steal the election. He just left them with three so people could say it was free and fair.
But I must say that the treatment we got from Q95 was even more painful and as a result, I vow to never tune in to Q95 again. I mean we’ve been with you for strength and comfort throughout the struggle and tonight when our hearts are bleeding and laborites rejoicing, you shut us out at 8pm? You left us with no one to call so we could exhale our pain? Shame, shame, and a BIG SHAME on Q 95 man. You all behaved like liars that felt exposed and we’re running from the police

BREAKING NEWS: Skerrit bought the election cash! That’s the truth that makes sense.
We already knew Ecc10:19 says “Money can buy everything you need. ”
This ELECTION receipt showed us that money bought preachers, church people and justice. So from now on no elections will not be based on issue but rather on who have money and based on actions of church people some might even think salvation is really based on money. As for me it is only the blood of Jesus!
Another thing this election receipt confirms is it is better to be evil than good. However Gods word says this i Isa. 5:20
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
We can say what we want but the election receipt just confirms that we called evil good, light darkness and bitter sweet.
So people get ready for a harvest of EVIL, darkness and bitter days. Please enjoy while God gives peace to those who rejected…

Elizabeth, your prayer is a fools prayer, and I will say to you again if you believe that God Jehovah, and Jesus Christ made Roosevelt Prime Minister of Dominica, I must say perhaps you are a fool!

There are more suffering people in Dominica, second to Haiti in the Caribbean, so I contend if Roosevelt is God gift to Dominica, if Roosevelt is ordained by God to rule over Dominicans; then I suggests God must be punishing Dominicans for some particular reason!

If Roosevelt is Gods chosen for Dominica, he must want Dominicans to suffer in dyer poverty.

May I remind you that in his words he said: By the sweet of thy face thou shall eat bread; and he also said it is I who make thee rich!

God never told his people I created you to live off handouts, stolen corrupted money; he never told anybody to take handouts from a president  king or dictator to live.

Happy as you are Dominica is domed.

Dominicans are easily bought; for a plate of food and a drink of rum don’t be surprised if one wont kill their mother.
Here is what happen in Wesley for the the now representative one of my cousins to win!

All he did was bought a goat; gave it to the young men in the village with a supply of rum; so they sat at the side of the road, and cook goat meat “goat-water’ drank their belly full of rum and that was enough to vote for Roosevelt candidate.

      You see the mentality Elizabeth?

Here is another example of stupidity, I have a nephew Alfred Detouches  (Hansey) the man cannot read, cannot write he has a withered arm, he is one handed.

This man lived in my grandmother’s more than a hundred year old house, where I was born; the house broke down on him; and I mean that literally, …………………………………… saved over three hundred thousand in Credit Union.

      Will continue.

    • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
      December 8, 2019

Elizabeth, some say his three hundred thousand disappeared in the credit union, some say Roosevelt government confiscate it, with no place to live, some organization went to Dominica and gave people boxes to live in.

They gave him one of which you have a picture, the man exists in the worst form of poverty, one of my sister Bernie by father; nothing to him went home saw him walking with a limp, when she checked his feet out the sole of his feet was filled with broken bottle or glass.

So, Bernie painfully extracted the foreign objects from his feet.

He then told my sister to tell me he need shoe; I sent the man more than dozen pair of shoe; life is rough for that guy; nevertheless, he in his poverty, and pain was out there campaign for Roosevelt.

What can one do with people who are as ignorant as my nephew; there are a majority of Dominicans like him who can read and write, yet dumb!

    • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
      December 8, 2019

So, here is the final chapter regarding the stupidity of our people, my nephew’s mother Marie, she had an old wooden house needed repair for more than fifteen years Roosevelt puppets ………and ……….both relatives of mine as close as brother and sister children in the case of ……..promised her materials to repair her house.

For more than fifteen years all she got was one sheet of plywood, and a sheet of Galvanize, herring of the housing give away, I ask Roosevelt to help my sister, he promised me he would, he is going into his fifth term nothing materialized the last hurricane blew away the house.

One would think Mr. Hansey would be angry, and vote Roosevelt out: No; he love Roosevelt more than himself and his mother.

I am not angry they did not help my sister; because right now I am building a house for her, and no politician can take credit for her house.

God let things that are not his will happen!

  86. December 6, 2019

I said it over and over 3 sixes & 3 singles now I do hope Lenox will give up trying to win his time is up Skerrit might retire as pm but Linton will retire as leader of the opposition so he can wait the only way to pm for him is a coup

    • December 8, 2019

@ wallace hussey, but a coup is the worse way, do you know of any coup where the leader survived and continued to rule?

When people go against the Will of God, they can never have victory or it will be short-lived.

In Grenada, those who joined Maurice Bishop to throw out Eric Gerry, were the same ones who put him under house arrest until he was murdered.

They all spent 25 years in jail. A futile attempt will always produce a damaging defeat. The God of Authority wants nothing to do with futility

If you know how dimwitted and ignorant you sound, you would remove your comment. DNO is not just read in Dominica you may not be aware. It is there for the world to see the simple-minded uneducated, adoration that leads wage-slaves like yourself, to embarrass themselves in public . . .

It’s goes to show that personal innuendoes and insults doesn’t win elections. The failed strategies of shouting corruption, anger, hatred, cursing others, poorly plan demonstrations and vision less leadership are recipes for failures. Be optimistic, offer a different vision, be positive, don’t denigrate others cause they disagree with you. Importantly, be intellectually honest and respect others views and ways of life are good formula for winning the masses. Uwpittes failed miserable and hopefully they’ll be gracious in defeat and congratulate their opponents.

He still “will” point us in the right direction. He hasn’t done that after 20 years. wow …. Of course his devil worship blends nicely with his “Fear of God”, having set the date of elections on 06/12. Like all other election dates this one attempts to relate as closely as possible to the notorious 666.

DNO LYING as usual it is not dozens,BIAS as usual. Its hundreds of supporters. If it was UWP you would say thousands of supporters. It is those BS which always cost UWP the election.

    • December 6, 2019

@Lin clown, let us leave that mentality alone, God has answered our call, let us give thanks and praise to Him.

What you should be speaking about is that DNO is the first to tell us, which they did, think of the fact that they didn’t leave that 18-3 win in hiding.

Do you realize we are back where we came from in 2009, with an 18-3 victory?

The UWP cannot be an opposing government with 3 candidates, but truly with a Leader like Lennox, we do not need an opposition; with the mass majority of Dominicans are contented with their ruling Government

Did YOU vote? People don’t win by violence and criminality. People win by showing they’re competitive and able to make all contributions necessary for improvement. There’s always another time. Don’t give up, don’t give in.
