COMMENTARY: An elder’s portrait of PM Skerrit

We live in dangerous times: right passes for wrong, lies for truth, deceit for intelligence. Too many of those once considered astute Public Servants have been transformed into zealots.

I study Dominica’s political leaders. The current Prime Minister is so far gone that he is predictable. The dark side delighted in, the wrong road selected, reveled in, traveled.
From his words, his postures, his reactions, I compiled a sketch. Incomplete it is. But one sure to embody some of his essences. Many may disagree. But this I owe the Dominican people first, with Mr. Skerrit next.
My impression is of a stubborn man, someone who is uncommitted to addressing matters, making moves according to his own clock. He’s not the soaring fluency of an orator, so he sticks to the basics, content with his mental scripts.
On the issue of the highly hailed national CBI patrimony, there are those who believe that  Mr. Skerrit has been lacking in push and power; unable or unwilling to pull others along with his explanations at accountability. I am one of those with faded expectations. His chosen way has been the slow, slippery step, a leader carving out his narrative in his own style.
I struggle to detect if there’s a method to the seeming sluggishness, awkwardness. There are positive days, then there are most days that leave empty. Often, the latter commands both clock and calendar.
One does not need to be a linguist or a soothsayer to so discern. His most recent pronouncement, however, as regards accountability for monies allegedly kept outside of Dominica’s Treasury, especially since some five years earlier, speaking publicly, he had promised to make a fool of then leader of Opposition, Mr Lennox Linton–after the competent and distinguished professionals of the Finance Ministry [does] the tabulation. This has not materialized and I am still kept in the dark. Indeed, the entire Nation awaits with anticipated breath.
Regardless of whether he has been hearing the tumults and dismay from the local environment, including those who matter the most to him, or came from deep inside of himself, as a matter of conviction, he has failed to deliver. And I paused and looked at him again. This time differently.
Differently, because the PM, the most senior leader has edged around this issue of accountability, and made himself small. When the hopes of despairing citizens are a matter for which war should have been declared, he has drifted, done deep dives out of contention.
My position is simple and sharp, possibly searing too. If this CBI wealth cannot be the best of life for ALL Dominicans, (every single one of them), then let there be the death of it.
Mr Skerrit should be listening, is old enough, to do all the absorbing necessary. Most regrettably, (most shamelessly), he has wrapped himself in a white towel, raised the white flag. Without a scintilla of decency and love for one of the most fundamental principles of a democracy–ACCOUNTABILITY– Mr Skerrit has surrendered in the most abject, deplorable manner conceivable. He’s condemned Dominicans–including the connected that are connecting– to rank captivity, prisoners of a new colonialism, an extended slavery.
As a descendant of human trafficking–often referred to as slavery–I am enraged at this 21st-century outrage. He too, a descendant of human trafficking, I would have thought that Mr Skerrit would have been more enraged than I. Cumulatively, he has been too uncouth, untruthful, and condescending in his public pronouncements.
This is an hour for the foreign exploiters, who call themselves PARTNERS to recognize the simmering sentiments, feel the heat of our passions. Incidentally, partners represent sometimes,  an assault on senses, intellect, [and] capacity for understanding.
I look around and await that fire that is seen, heard and felt during the passions of national elections. Goddamn it! Dominicans are fighting for economic freedom, not for giving power to leaders who subjugate them to…their foreign partners and their Chinese friends.
Let those same passions and power demonstrated during national elections be brought to bear on the vandalizers of this country’s dignity, the profaners of the true destiny of the Dominican people.
Dominicans have shown themselves capable of that same degree of commitment during elections, why not now, when the promise of the people is being drained away and diminished?
We disregard it at our own peril.

What issues has the Government created, have you looked at the UWP and their behavior with the mischievous allegations and concerns they keep
propagating on a daily basis, the never ending wheel of chaos in the country. As to your recent fiasco, the school building in Calibishie, were you in Calibishie when the Government met to address the concerns of the residents regarding that project. Didn’t the Government explain to the people about the project and why things were going to be done a certain way, didn’t the outcome of the meeting end on a positive note for the residents, till the political operatives of the UWP gave their spin misrepresenting facts creating an issue as is always the case. As for the rest of your comment, it’s all repeated and recycled political rhetoric, nothing new innuendoes and assumptions as usual, so long

Nothing is WRONG with Skeritt. The opposition simply has work to do to educate the voting public to be brave and change their representation every 10 – 15 years.
Go ahead, give it a try.

Thats all well and good in theory but when cool out start to pass, you think those same Dominicans that were grumbling and complaining going to care? for them half a bread is better than no bread. But most of them dont even know, or care to know that we all own the bakery, and if we change the baker, we will have all the bread we need to flourish as a nation. But no. Jesus Skerrit they want. so let them bawl. Let them cry. So they like it. Dominicans not stupid. Dominicans just wicked. They refuse to try something new, even if they know they can change it back in 4-5 years easily. they act like they have only one choice, and that one choice must be made. Same young people that in every rally sewoing is the same ones that crying for a job and a cool out. How many young boys are unemployed? how many foreign businesses are coming in droves to invest? How many major manufacturers do we have? how many banks do we have left? but they busy just building houses to wash the money.

Now, the PM may be a tad peeved at me but I have said before, if the people’s money can’t be disclosed in its fullness, how does it not amount to anything but a dark conspiracy? And how does the PM expect to be trusted when he conceals and wiggles, when he behaves like some cheap prostitute running through the pockets of this country to raid every damn penny from it ?
If prostitute is too offensive to Mr Skerrit’s tender Florence Nightingale sensitivities, then I do him another favour : I replace prostitute with parasite, plague, foisted on Dominicans, devouring their hopes, diluting their rights.
For his reluctance to report honestly and transparently, is nothing but the parasitic sucking and pestilential draining of the blood of every citizen.

Yesterday it was advice to Dominica’s youth, now a portrait of the PM, what’s next Rock Bruno, lol. “I study Dominica’s political leaders.” really, is this really a diligent and honest commentary of studies and observations made about The PM. Why mask the intentions of a political operative with the pretense of a diligent commentary. I shiver when people give lectures about right passes for wrong, lies for truth, deceit for intelligence when in fact they are the purveyors of deceit with recycled innuendos, hearsay, disregard for evidence, political rhetoric, ignoring facts, negligence in observation and making political partisan beliefs supersede reason.

When will the dominance of rational thinking override partisan political beliefs in Dominica as a source of insight and understanding of the chaos and mischievous orchestrated propaganda being unleashed by people
    with a political agenda.

A very long commentary Mr Bruno but was there anything new revealed in the commentary? The answer is nothing. I am not sure what audience you were targeting with this commentary but I can assure you that everyone familiar with Dominican politics is already aware of the stuff that you mentioned. This strategy has failed time and time again so why continue posting stuff that the majority don’t care about? You should instead focus on plans for uplifting the average man’s living condition if given the opportunity to govern. Go out to the various constituencies and conduct serious meetings with voters to find out for yourself the things that matter most to them. You have to engage entire communities to be successful so be prepared to face folks who may appear to be hostile to your message. These folks are so locked in in their beliefs that at times the dialogue may seem to be confrontational but don’t be discouraged. A good message will yield the desired results.

My friend in terms of ACCOUNTABILITY of monies from our passport sales, i reiterate what i have always been saying; “Skerrit is well hooked”. He is ensnared, and can’t extricate himself. He CANNOT ACCOUNT FOR THE MISSING MONIES, because he was never in control of it. The fool in an attempt to give a whiff of accountability in one of his press conferences, garbled to the so called journalist (not verbatim), ‘look around Dominica, and you will see where the money has been spent’. Shameful and insultive unadulterated garbage and puffery from a prime minister.Does he understand how people account for money?
An independent forensic accountant/auditor, will expose him in time to come…Then he will know that he was working for the people of Dominica, and not for himself.
So now you all should know why honourable Linton is hated so much!!

Rock Bruno, you have taken too much propaganda, fake news and UWP lies laxatives you are far from the toilet and is now pooping yourself. The majority of the Dominican people know every Dominican is issued at the immigration department in Roseau.Every Dominican know that the passport is the PROPERTY of the government and it will always REMAIN the property of the government,It cannot be sold. You talk about money in treasury, man you are such an ahole, the constitution says all monies coming into Dominica on behalf of Dominica for a SPECIFIC PURPOSE does not have to go into the consolidated fund. When UWP was in power between 1995 and 2000 the $53,000,000 for the construction for the Layou 5 Star Hotel in the Layou valley did NOT go into the treasury. No government in the history of Dominica have given so many it’s citizens $250,000,$300,000 and $400,000 houses and apartments FREE.That has caused the downfall and destruction of UWP.Skerrit is speaking in the people’s tongue unlike Linton…

you fool. and typically like a steadfast labor monkey try to discredit the man right off the jump. for the CBI it does have to go into the fund. But here you go again talking about when uwp was in power 30 years ago. What anout when DLP was in power 45 years ago when all you were trying to sell the country to kkk members and communists. all you couldnt sell it wholesale that time but all you making sure all you selling it in pieces under our nose. You worry about 1 failed project in Layou. what about the morrocan hotel that is an eyesore? the labor and immigration case with the ex deputy commissioner. Or the man from Fisheries that was also stealing money. All of these people are dlp operatives working in government ministries but you not hearing about them. You praising government for giving houses but you not seeing that banks and financial sector is crumbling because of it. you not seeing NEP is a complete strain in the treasury. skerrit is speaking in chinese and arabic

      @Labour power
You are getting personal, irritable and waspish about the messanger, and you are forgetting the message. Is it a sign that you are a blind zealot of a corrupt regime, and you don’t even know what you are defending. A long harangue, that will surely condemn your false God even more.
Tell you false God to ACCOUNT for the peoples money!

I suspect you have just given the author reason to pen more similar commentaries.
You guys who are permanently drunk on propaganda and indoctrination must learn to deal with the MESSAGE and not the MESSANGER.
Amos Wilson speaks of projectionism : the practice of accusing others of qualities/ characteristics they themselves possess. That fits you so well.

And, there is a method to the mediocrity madness! The modus operandi is to create issues and them come riding in on a white horse pretending to be the savior and problem solver in chief. The recent fiasco with the school building in Calibishie refers. But, for all those on the gravy train, there is no incentive for them to reinvent the wheel. They are happy campers, who are quite contented with their little arrangements and will fight tooth and nail to keep it that way. It looks like we are all being taken to hell in a hand basket. Hopefully some will be able to wake up and smell the fire before it is too late.
