Vescort Jones has officially resumed his role as Aviation Security Officer at the Dominica Air and Seaports Authority (DASPA), nearly eleven years after his dismissal in December 2014. The reinstatement follows a prolonged legal and public campaign, culminating in an amicable settlement between Jones and DASPA that includes a compensation package deemed satisfactory by Jones.
Jones was originally dismissed after allowing United Workers Party (UWP) leader Lennox Linton to dispose of crab backs at the Douglas-Charles Airport, which Linton intended to travel with but lacked the required permit. The incident sparked widespread public support in Jones’s home community of Marigot, where residents and political figures viewed the dismissal as politically motivated dominicanewsonline.com
In January 2015, over 500 residents signed a petition demanding Jones’s reinstatement, which was delivered to DASPA CEO Benoit Bardouille by Linton and members of the Marigot community. The petition described Jones’s termination as a “clear act of political victimization” and called for accountability within DASPA dominicanewsonline.com.
Despite the public outcry and the submission of the petition, the Labour Tribunal failed to reach a decision on Jones’s wrongful dismissal claim for over a decade. A second tribunal was eventually appointed, and recent negotiations led to a resolution that allowed Jones to return to his post.
In a press release, Jones expressed gratitude for the outcome, stating, “I am very happy to return to the job I have always loved. Aviation security has been my passion and my calling.” He also thanked his family, attorney, and supporters for standing by him during his pursuit of justice.
Jones now looks forward to continuing his service to Dominica, contributing to the safety and efficiency of the nation’s air and sea port operations. His reinstatement marks the end of a long-standing dispute and a return to a profession in which he has been recognized for his dedication and integrity.
Well done Vescott.
The mere fact that Vescott started actioons in his own hands and went on Q95 scared the sheet out of many. Yes he started calling out a few incidents where cabalists and their cohorts were getting away with murder at the airport like the alleged flight attendant drug carrier and alleged big boy traveling with his weapon as if he is an air marshall. Boy, hell for these guys will be much hotter than for me I am sure

Wow, why no one gives the PM for kudos for his intervention showing empathy putting the past behind moving on acknowledging, a person mistake. The PM did not have to do what he did with his intervention, I wish this young man well, by the way, did Linton apologize to Vescort Jones for putting him in such a situation, instead of politicizing the matter.
I hope he is fully compensated for the 11 years of no income he suffered by the evil actions of then General Manager/ CEO of DASPA.
I hope those nuisance paid you for every single month plus whatever social security benifits and make those years count towards your gratuity in addition to the pain humiliation and suffering to you and your dependants. I hope there is a special place in hell for some of these evil people who prey on other humans and fail to turn away from the darkness that has engulfed our home.
More power to you.
If the owner of the crab backs was a supporter of the Labour party,Vescort Jones would never give him back the crab backs. His action was all about politics,I am sure Vescort is a supporter of UWP.
do you know if de tribunal members are DLP
Skerrit admitted that de tribunal is disfunctional for years………whos’s fault UWP?
you admitting dat de whole ting is about DLP against UWP
if Vescort was DLP would he lose his job?
dat crab backs story will never go away because of de crookery in how it was handled
bottom line is Skerrit backtracked and from de outside looking in we know who is guilty of what
we don’t need a lawyer, judge nor crooked disfunctional tribunal to weigh de scale in our justice matters while dlp and Skerrit have all dat influence
Proof once again that a delay is not a denial; however, the mutual reinstatement agreement will never take away the emotional pain and financial hardship that this gentleman and his family endured.
Kudos to the multitude of extended family and community members who lifted up unceasing prayers and well wishes on behalf of Mr. Jones while proving that it is indeed worthwhile to be “our brothers and sisters keepers”.
