After a dominating performance at last night’s competition, Joy Stoute beat 9 other competitors to become Dominica’s 2025 Calypso monarch and only the second female to achieve this feat.
Dice placed 1st runner up followed by Shanice as 2nd runner up with Daryl Bobb placing fourth.
You can view Joy’s victory performance below:
Firstly, I personally relish social commentary in songs especially political satire. Chalk- dust in Trinidad does the same. Many of his decades old songs are still popular and relevant today contrary to your argument.
Contrary to your assertion, I have heard songs by Dice over the airways in different islands. Dice has also performed in the US so refrain from disseminating such erroneous statements about the TEN (10) times King.
Lastly, even though his songs are mostly about politics, they touch on many different topical issues which profoundly affect everyday life in the country that 99% of residents can relate to.
I appreciate your argument but vehemently disagree.
Congrats Queen of Kaiso 2025 – Well done. Beautiful smile, positive and soul searching lyrics to keep us moving. From one song bird to another – much blessings to you.
Earned it! Two strong deep soul searching songs. Class rendition. No suprise here. watch out for the ladies going to dominate calypso for the next few years based on the trend in last couple years. The women have great vocals and there are some good writers and composers out there.
Large up Joy, well deserved! The first three positions were well judged. I hope the rest of carnival will not only be great but violence free.
So refreshing to see this lady’s performance. Very deserving of the crown. For a change, the judges scored by the quality of lyrics, melody and performance and not by the individual artist performing. I suppose the judges this year are a bit fed up of Dice and Pat Aaron recycled lyrics and one man topic which they have been using for the past twenty years. Well done judges. I hope we see much more of this lady’s performances for the next few years and not just around carnival time. Dominica’s own Calypso Rose.
Why the unprovoked attack on Dice? Have some respect and appreciation for the ten (10) times King! He brings the crowd to life and is the main attraction for the many attendees at the show. That’s the objective truth.
@Ibo France. That’s the problem with us Dominicans. We like taking the plaudits whole heartedly but when it comes to critique, we take it as a personal vendetta and just brush it aside. Even you will admit that even before Dice start to sing a calypso you already know the lyrics. While it was entertaining for the first couple times, after continuous repetition and recycling of the same lyrics and theme, it becomes boring. That’s why Dice have never evolved from a carnival performer to a great Calypsonian like Sparrow, kitch, chalk-dust, calypso Rose etc. No one listen to Dice after carnival is over. Compare that to the likes of Tokyo, Solo, etc. whose songs are still played for years even after they’ve gone. You are not doing Dice any favours by not critiquing him when it’s warranted. You are giving him a false sense of of security making him believe that he’s great when he is far short of this level. Yes, he is a good performer on stage but his lyrics lack versatility.
On point! [Enter applause emoji.]
@ Ibo France, calypso is controversial from time and all players in this industry are exposed to critique fairly or unfairly. So it should be no surprise about the critical comments directed at Dice and Pat as the vast majority of calypsoes they present to the public are anti-government and anti-Skerritt. Pat’s choice of topics is clearly influenced by his political opinion (his right and choice), so they will always be subject to criticism. We must also understand that calypso has lost its premier position in carnival celebrations one hardly hear a calypso on the road it is all Bouyon. For the past 2 to 3 years th calypso final was second to an entertainment event held on the same night as the finals, this event was held at the Canefield airport this year and the response was huge. Is this a sign of changing times or patrons are just fed up with the direction calypso seems to be heading?
@Eagle-Eyed
Your views. They are red, extremely idiotic, empty and very much lacking in substance!
Very well deserved! The community of San Sauveur / Pte. Sourfriere can now exhale and take this as signal that they can win in ALL their current struggles especially those imposed on them by this wicked cabal.
