Caribbean urged to prepare for “big one”

Dr. Joan Latchman head of the UWI Seismic Research Centre in Trinidad

Following several quakes all over the Caribbean in the last few days including a burst of 54 earthquakes off St. Kitts. and two earthquakes near Dominica last night Dr. Joan Latchman of the UWI Seismic Research Centre has renewed calls for the region to be prepared for a major earthquake.

In years to come the islands around the world will be under water or destroyed. And those peoples will have to move to lager islands or onto the continents, Europe,Asia,Africa etc. Wait and see.

This Message is at Revelation 6
And the kings of the earth, the great men, [the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave, and every free man, hid in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains.

They said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

See that the first mentioned are all those who think they are the greatest, highest, & mightiest, together with the slaves. They will be calling for refuge from the caves & mountain–not even their finest castles or mansions will give them refuge.

It is not the Degrees, Ph.D.’s, or Doctorate; not the fat bankbook, how powerful & popular one is; for none of those assets will save him/her from the wrath of God.

Conscience, mind, heart, & soul is what we should be concerned about, those 4 must be in great health— Dominicans, take heed!

The effects of an earthquake depends on population affected, structures, type of lithology the structures are build upon depth and magnitude among other things. Preparation for the big one should be part of the settlement planning, infrastructure planning and already been in place. The big one does not give lead time warning so you cannot do any short term planning like a hurricane. It happens and it is quick powerful and destructive and we can only prey we survive the power of God. Reading the reports i would also be concerned with volcanoes. These concentrated low magnitude tremors are also associated with movement of magma. It would by nice to do sea floor thermal and deformation measurements at the tremor location. The recent Trinidad tremors and other quakes around the Caribbean and cocos plates may be enough to cause weak spots where magma is forces to the surface. The Caribbean chain was formed by geologic episodes of earth quakes and volcanoes. We just have to respect nature.
