Opposition leader, Jesma Paul Victor, has opted to maintain her silence regarding her recent decision to revoke Senator Sean Douglas’ appointment as an opposition member of parliament. This surprising development emerged in the public domain when it was reported that Paul-Victor, the independent candidate for the Salisbury Constituency, is seeking to dismiss Douglas, a businessman and former press secretary of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) government.
In response to inquiries made by Dominica News Online (DNO), she confirmed her actions, stating, “I have written to The President Her Excellency, Sylvanie Burton, on November 6th, 2023, asking that the appointment of Senator Sean Douglas be revoked with immediate effect.”
However, as to the reason(s) leading up to this decision, she stated “For now I choose not to give any comments.”
It is worth noting that following the snap 2022 general election, Paul-Victor announced in January 2023 that Douglas, along with Salisbury native Lori Victor, would serve as her two opposition senators in the House of Assembly.
The enigmatic nature of this decision has spurred widespread speculation about the motivations behind the opposition leader’s action. Attempts to reach out to Douglas have also proven unfruitful.
