Update: Teen missing for three weeks found in Salisbury

Abiyah James

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) has verified to Dominica News Online (DNO) that the 15-year old female from the community of Mahaut, who was considered a runaway, has been found this morning in the community of Salisbury.

On Friday, June 25, 2021, the police confirmed to DNO that a search was underway for Abiyah James who had been reported missing from her home for over three weeks.

As informed by the police, at the time, James who is a student of the Goodwill Secondary School (GSS) may not necessarily be in danger, but given the fact that she is a minor, her disappearance was cause for concern.

This morning, several videos circulated on social media of police officers escorting a teenager inside of their vehicle, which many alleged was the missing student.

When contacted, the police confirmed the statement to be true and informed DNO that she had been found.

While further information could not be revealed as the matter is under investigation, the police have confirmed that James is presently back at home with her family

I am TRYING not to jump to conclusions, but, I have questions:

Was she forced to leave with a male companion?
Did she runaway because of what is happening in the home?
Where in likkle ole DA can somebody “hide’ for two to three weeks?
If she was forced by some man, then the family should take matters into their won hands.
If she ran away to be with a man, the family should consider whooping that ars(e).
    Back in my hole…

Dat little pissanit running away! Stupes!

Did her parents go to her school and challenge her teachers which may have empowered her to do dat nonsense.

She needs psychiatric support! Then a good old taking a village to raise a child discipline, even if she was living with family members and nothing dutty happened.

Yes, the police should interrogate those responsible for housing this juvenile and bring charges against them if necessary.

Such personal information is none of our business. Leave theta to the family and the counselor. Do your want the young lady to be further embarrassed and traumatized? What good would it do if you knew the reasons?.

That’s the question. What about her current situation had her leave home in the first place???? No one could convince me to leave my home at her age. I had parents to fear.

Let’s focus on building/ raising strong young people. Create situations at home for them to thrive. If you can’t do that, don’t bring them into the world. Take birth control. Children do not deserve to live like this!!!

Keep her busy, engage her in what she loves so she doesn’t have time or interest in that nonsense. Show you care and want the best for her and spend quality time.

Saw the video of her being picked up by the police. Now will the people she was staying with be questioned? Or will she simply be returned home? When i heard this story on the radio i chuckled and shook my head. I said HMM! another one go and play big woman. She not missing at all she ducking all you.

Who are the people or who is the person she ran to be with? If she is a minor, and that person or people are adults, should they not have some kind of legal responsibility to make sure that child was returned home. 3 weeks? Little girls, be warned that when you are young you may feel invincible. but you do not want to left pregnant for some deadbeat who isnt worth his weight in salt, with no real education apart from CXC, to depending on other men to be able to feed yourself and your child. you all have all the time in the world to worry about man after have finished school. Respect yourselves and your parents and do good.

Left pregnant is the LEAST of her worries. Left with HIVor HSV-2 should be her biggest concern now.
She should be tested for the full range of STD’s now.

    Great news!
Now take that child to the doctor so she can be examined to make a determination if she was molested. Welfare has a tendency to fail these children and when confronted like blaming the police. Its always the polo fault, never theirs. Talking from experience, I can tell you these so called welfare officers are lazy and incompetent. Hopefully they will help this child and not abandon her like many before her.

Happy to know that she is back home. I hope whatever issues or problems she may have had for leaving can be permanently resolved. Now focus steadfastly on your school work and try to become a law abiding and productive citizen. Best wishes!

What about the people she went to be with. should they not be questioned? maybe even reprimanded? She is a minor.

In full agreement with that. The police should thoroughly investigate the person or persons who were housing this juvenile.
